No one has done Buttonisms in several years now to add to Barbara Hoffman's list that she generated 4-5 years ago. I did a google search and printed off all that I could find till now. I have a feeling that Mr. Button is approaching the twilight of his skating commentary and recently on another forum more than 80 posts pro and con (and rapidly in just 3 days!) were given about his contributions, etc. There are different generations of fans over the course of his TV commentary and it was so nice to read some of the wonderful things said about him.

He hasn't been doing as much this past year or so and with Nationals coming up I just wanted to give a 'heads up' to those of you who listen for his old and new phrases.

I am keeping a file in case ABC does a big send-off and thought if anyone wanted to keep contributing to the Buttonism list it might be helpful in the future.

You can post here or email me privately. Thanks.

Skateflo, I normally don't like to rain on the parade of someone such as yourself who is trying to something nice.

But I once saw Dick Button do something so rude, it completely turned me off. I was at Nationals a few years ago, and was watching the senior men practice their long programs. Dick Button was sitting in the first row, center ice, watching the practice. When one skater who had none of the harder triples (and who ultimately came in last place)took his opening position, Dick Button opened up a newspaper and held it up, completely blocking his view of the ice. It was such an extraordinarily rude gesture, and so unmistakenly intentional, that I can't see the value of anyone going out of their way to do something special for someone so mean.

Reminds me of an (unannounced) skating show practice at a local rink where a well-known female skater came in wearing a fur coat. She proceeded to toss it gently onto the filthy bench and floor. I can still see this image from my teenage years as if it happened this morning.

At the time, I wasn't upset that she was wearing fur, I was disappointed in her treating the coat with so little respect. I have never wanted to own a fur, having worked for a cleaner in high school. I think they're beautiful, but unneccessary, like solid gold bathroom fixtures.

Sort of reminds me of the Nancy Kerrigan/Disney Parade. Being famous means people are always watching your every movement. Too bad I caught this woman in a bad moment.
