Just curious after seeing them in recent competitions, is it normal for them not to included side by side jumps in their performances? The team competitions they were in recently listed the side by side jumps as a requirement, but they did not do one, and did not seem to get a deduction for it.

I realize these were just pro comps that are not all that important, I was just surprised they did not include the jumps in their program.

And perhaps I was wrong about the requirements, but I seem to remember the s by s jumps being in them, but after their performances the commentators did not mention anything about a deduction for that either.

North America vs. The World - side by side jumps were definintely NOT on the list of requirements shown on TV. I don't remember about the rules for World Team Challenge. S & P "appear to have" removed the jumps from their program due to David's broken foot bone this fall. He just returned to the ice in time for the team competitions.

SBS jumps not a requirement for World Team either, so no "mandatory deduction." However the inclusion of them would in theory bump up the technical score.

Thanks. For some reason I was thinking they were required, but I guess not.

I'm pretty sure that a twist wasn't a required element for WTC either, but IIRC at least 3 and perhaps all 4 teams attempted one.

According to the program I bought at the WTC, for the Technical Program, "The pairs are expected to include a minimum of 3 overhead lifts, at least 1 double or triple throw, at least 1 pair or solo spin and at least 1 death spiral."

"For the Artistic Program, the mark will be based on technical merit and artistry. Technical merit includes difficulty, variety, and quality of jumps, spins and footwork. Artistry includes musical interpretation, choreography, originality, creativity, expression and interpretation."

Since jumps were not required and jumps seem to be S/P's weakest move I think they were wise not to include them and risk spoiling the continuity of a beautiful program. :)

But should they have won without them when the other teams included them making S/P's tech. content lower?
In my opinion no, they should not have.
But it was a cheesefest and not important so it doesn't really matter.
