Hey! I'm wondering when this will air. I think I heard Dec. 16 on CBC, but what about on any American Channels? (a friend of mine in the states doesn't get CBC)
Also, does anyone know the complete cast?

During the past few years, Holiday Festival On Ice has been broadcast in syndicated networks across the U.S., but it's unconfirmed whether or not they'll do the same thing this year. I certainly hope so, though!
The actual show took place last night and well, things didn't exactly go as expected:

The show did eventually go on, though--here's a nice review over at FSU:

It's a shame something like this had to happen, though--especially considering how much tickets cost for this one ($83 each--eek!)

Wow, what a shame that that had to happen. For the fans especially, and for the skaters too.
It sounds like it eventually was an amazing show though. I can't wait to see it on tv.

I know they were really trying to herald the Ricoh Coliseum as a new alternative for skating shows ... so much for that idea! Hey, maybe they'll try their luck next year in ... say ... Vancouver? (Unlikely, I know, since Brian is based in TO, but we can wish can't we?)
Anyway, I'm really looking forward to the broadcast -- they usually manage to cram a lot of great skating into an hour, and in the past it's been my favourite holiday skating show.

I'm really looking forward to it too. Just a glnace at the lineup even made the rest of my family excited!

For US viewers: check your NBC affiliate. KING (Seattle) is carrying it on Dec. 21 at 11:00 am, and on Dec. 25 at 6:30 pm. However I see that they include Angela Nikodinov and Grushina & Goncharov in the cast list, so either it's a typo or it's last year's show they're airing.

"Jenny Kirk and Angela were OK but not great," someone wrote.
As has been reported some of the skaters (including Jenny Kirk)needed retakes; still, the abbreviated version of HFI that I saw tonight on CBC tv was highly entertaining.
As I viewed Jenny Kirk flying over the ice in her interpretation of a number from Chicago, I thought, what musicality--what energy--what skating--whatta twenties gal! I was transfixed.
--just so thoroughly enjoyed the entire hour. To a skater, the program was first-rate. I'm just sorry that CBC didn't see fit to give us the whole program. I don't think the other headliners should have been expunged so high handedly. Well, that's my take on it--gotta complain about somethin'--and that's tonight's beef.
Fortunately, I taped it, so will look forward to re-viewing the whole hour sans ads. Yes!

For those of you who gets SRC (French CBC), SRC will show a 2hours version Dec. 31 at 6:30pm.
CBS (WCAX) is also showing it Dec. 25 at 6pm in an hour format.

ITA. She really sold that number. I also thought that, with a little music editing, it would be a great one for her as a competitive piece.
My only complaint about her number (and Shae & Vic's, and Ryans), was that they weren't "holiday" programs. I know that all 3 skaters have very good reasons for not taking the time to choreograph a thematic piece, but still ... I was also disappointed we didn't get to see Shawn Sawyer or Liz & Sean, but I believe they skated either competitive or ex programs that we'll see soon at Canadians, so I can live with that. After all, if it's only a 1 hour broadcast, something's gotta give.

Artemis, it was good to hear that you enjoyed Jenny's performance.
Your comment about being disappointed that her choice of skate wasn't theme oriented is valid, as she was skating under the umbrella of Holiday Festival on Ice. I guess the reason it didn't bother me a whit is that I'm really into broadway tunes--I mean I'm a musical broadway sponge. Guess that's also why I find the Tony Awards the best of all televised award shows. Broadway rocks!

I saw Angela Nikodinov at Pearson airport the morning after the show at Ricoh - I was on my way to the GPF.
It was about 7:30 a.m. in the morning.
I spotted her at the Air Canada check-in, then at U.S. Customs, then at the gates.

Actually, it looks like most of the skaters at Holiday Festival On Ice did perform at least one holiday-themed program at this year's show! Last year, most of the skaters performed one holiday-themed and one "regular" program at the show--most of the programs that made the TV broadcast were the holiday-themed ones.
I think Kurt was the only skater in the show who performed two holiday-themed programs and even one of those was an old number--the only other time he skated The First Noel was at another holiday show back in 1994, so it was great to see him bring it back!
I miss the days when eligible skaters (or at least the gold medallists) performed two (and sometimes even three!) different exhibition numbers. But considering how many more events eligible skaters have to compete in nowadays, that's probably too much to ask anymore--especially when it comes to creating a Christmas-themed number they'll likely only get to perform at one or two shows. I'm pleasantly surprised at how many eligible skaters were able to skate holiday-themed numbers at the show--or at least had already-existing programs that fit in well with the show's theme (Putnam and Wirtz's "Ave Maria," for instance), though!
Hopefully we'll get to see a lot more of the show during the 2-hour SRC broadcast--I don't think any network broadcast Holiday Festival On Ice in a 2-hour timeslot last year, so that is great news!
BTW, did anyone else mistake Jenny Kirk for Caryn Kadavy and/or Josée Chouinard during the Holiday Festival On Ice broadcast?
It's showing again on CBC tommorow at 7pm ET.

SRC (the French equivalent of CBC) is scheduled to broadcast a 2-hour version of Holiday Festival On Ice between 6:30 and 8:30 EST tonight, in case there's anyone here who gets this channel and would like to see the rest of the show. :)
