Last weekend Miriam successfully
defended her national title,
beating Joanne Carter and Sarah Yvonne Prytula.
Congratulations, Miriam.

Congratulations to all who competed, especially Miriam and those who skated up a level from last year!!
Mens results were surprising! Getting closer to Turin, I wonder who will get the Men's spot? Skating in Australia is going from strength to strength...lots of great young talent....
Congratulations Miriam...

Great to see Joanne Carter still hanging in there. Anyone know what kind of jump content she had?
mikey unfortunately I couldn't go, so no, I don't. However one of the coaches at my rink spoke to Galina recently who said Jo had all her triples back and is doing well...she still is in with a slim chance for Turin...she has come through a lot (knee operation, and her father's recent death) so it's great that she is still up there....
I know a couple of people on the boards who went, so hopefully they can help you more...

The surprise winner of the bronze medal was Miriam Manzano of Australia, who stood in fourth place following the short program. She produced a triple Lutz/double toeloop combination in the short, but she missed her flip and the combination spin was wobbly. Performing to The Nights in the Gardens of Spain, Manzano delivered one of her best free skates up to date. The oldest competitor in the Ladies' field landed six triple jumps, she only doubled the loop, and her spins could have been more creative.
this came from her web site.the finlandia competition.
She should be exciting to watch this year:0)
Does Australia send women to the olympics for figure skating?

Good to see both Manzano and Carter still hanging in there. I must have missed something--did Steffi Zhang compete, or is she injured or retired?

if australia qualifies for a spot at the olys they definately send one along!

Manzano is at Mariposa in Barrie, Ontario for around a month to train in preparation for the Four Continents Championship.
Zhang actually did decide to stop skating; she was having too hard a time trying to get back the triples after the series of injuries/illnesses she had.
