Does anyone have any results for the "World Team Challenge" taking place? I'm not sure exactly where it is happening but I think Canada, just not sure about which area so it may have not begun yet, it may be underway or it may be about finished. Hehe!

It's happening in Vancouver - that's about as far west as you can go in terms of time zones in Canada :)

Is this going to be on TV?

I understand that it will be broadcast by Oxygen in the US. In Canada, it appears that it will be available to those with digital/satellite TV only. I've seen a listing for Saturday, Dec. 13 at 4 p.m. on "151 NETE" (a 2 hr. broadcast).

It's going to be broadcast in Canada on Radio-Canada (aka French branch of CBC) on January 10, 2004 at 7pm. That coincides with Nationals :(

Josee Chouinard, you rock!

In Vancouver, Victoria, and a good chunck of Washington State, you can see it on KVOS 12 this Saturday (at 8) and Sunday (at 6). It's unclear whether the Sunday broadcast will be a repeat of the Saturday one, or whether they're splitting the technical and artistic.

It was an awesome event. A perfect balance of competition and theatre, the best of what pros can do (although I would have liked show lighting for the Artistic programs).

There were a couple of weaker moments, but nothing that made you say "that sucked." And a lot of real highlights, including, for me at least:
~ Todd's Spanish guitar number
~ seeing Oksana skating great and looking happy
~ Josée blowing everyone else away with her "I may be retired but I can still do fab jumps and artistry"
~ Kurt doing what Kurt does best
~ all 4 programs by the 4 Olympic pairs gold medalists -- both teams really highlighting their own strenghts.

Did a city-by-city search the other day, one city per province, for World Team Challenge in Canada. You can find the broadcast dates and times I found here:

http://www.kurtfiles.com/events/worldteam03.php

Hope that helps at least guide your search. Looks like it's primarily on A-Channel/Toronto-1 affiliates on Dec. 6 & 7 and Sportsnet East on Dec. 13. And on Oxygen Dec. 13-14, 8-10PM EST both nights in the US.

Great work, Teenes ... but you're still missing the KVOS listing for the Vancouver/Victoria/Washington area. This is important since it's a basic cable channel. See my earlier post for dates and times.

Thanks Artemis. KVOS didn't come up in my search for Vancouver, but I also discovered later that searching "skating" doesn't always bring up the World Team Challenge (which was occasionally classified as "Miscellaneous"). Do you know what station/network that is? Or is it just a generic basic cable station?

I'm not going to be able to put that up until late tonight, unfortunately. Can't update from work, have a Barenaked Ladies concert (yay!) to go to after work =). Thanks for the heads-up, though, I'll add it as soon as I have the opportunity.

KVOS is an indie -- I don't think it's affiliated with any networks. It's kinda an odd situation, operated jointly in Vancouver and Bellingham WA. Mosly they run syndicated stuff series. I don't think they've ever had skating on before.

They've had 'cheapie' shows on before, particularly around Christmas. As I recall, last year they showed a few of those tiny sheets of ice shows, which always make me cringe (just due to my personal love of the feel of a huge sheet of ice). It's not unusual for them to have skating, but I'm a little worried as to what they'll do with it, lol.

Hey Guys - if anyone's interested in the notes I took or whatever...I took them (and got made fun of by the friends I went with ), but will post them for ya if you want. I'll post more about the night later...BUT the best part was definitely...
Getting Jamie Sale's autograph and my picture taken with her. She's a sweetheart for sure!!

Korts

(Oh, and Kels if you read this...seeing her that close up only confirmed my thoughts that you're Jamie's long lost identical twin a few years younger ;))

Josee was just amazing. Her two new numbers are perfect for her.
The Lover, Cabaret...She was a major factor in Canada's win. with Kurt 2nd and Dave and Jamie beating the other team by .1 I guess that means she took the commanding lead for her team.

No wonder we cannot forget about Josee. She always comes back with a great smiles and she sure knows how to make us smile.

The technical program was aired tonight on some low-budget TV station that billed itself as "Canada's Super Station" (yes, I have satellite). Interesting station. During every commercial break they would play a clip of a music video (woohoo! Sloan!) However, there was no word on when the artistic program would be aired.

ANYWAYS, it was nice to see a professional competition for a change. When I first started watching figure skating about 10 years ago that is what I mainly watched (there seemed to be more of them back then). Amateur skating is very exciting and the Olympics are where 'stars are born', I guess, but IMHO, it is in the professional ranks where some of the magic of skating can be found. I really enjoyed tonight's show. Yagudin, Sale & Pelletier, and Chounard were the highlights for me.

After the technical Russia was in the lead, so it is nice to hear that Canada ended up winning overall.

Hi thumbyskates,
This is OT, but I was just wondering if the Matt McEwan in your signature trains at Burnaby 8-Rinks, or used to? Thanks!

Your station in question would be NTV - Newfoundland television. VERY low-budget and a big annoyance the past couple years when they broke their affiliation with CTV and as such I no longer get skating on CTV (nationals). you should check out the NTV evening news sometime. Very amusing. The hosts have to do their own make-up and one has a problem with bobbing her head to enunciate.

The artistic programs are tonight (Sunday) at 8:30 NT. :)
