Hey did anyone see the Peanuts charlie Brown comic in Mon. Hartford Courant Paper? Lucy is skating and talking about a Christmas Show at her Skating Club, and is saying she could be in it if she only had a Partner.Snoopy then comes up and offers to be her Partner.

I'm such a nerd, but Snoopy must be left handed, because the way his feet are crossed in his double axel. ;)

Thats cute!
The Colorado Lottery has a commercial out now with skating. The skater takes off, spins so many times its a blur, then lands facing forward! OK, I'm only a fan, and I've never been on a pair of skates in my life....but even I can get a mental image of landing on those toe picks! :o

Speaking of Charlie Brown, does anyone remembers several years back there was a Charlie Brown special on TV called "You're A Good Skater, Charlie Brown", or something like that. I think Lucy was the skater in the special. I can't locate that special anywhere on videos and it doesn't come on TV anymore.

Does the camera "cut away" between the jump/spin and the landing? If so, they may be changing models between a skating double and the "face" that they want in the commercial. Skaters forget that not everyone can skate backwards. A non-skating "face" model may only be able to do the forward glide, so they changed the skaters' maneuver to accommodate.

I'm pretty sure the video is "You're a Good Skate, Charlie Brown" and that the girl skating is Peppermint Patti, not Lucy. Snoopy beomes her coach.
Charles Schultz' daughter was a skater and the drawings of the routines are based on hers.

FSWer - check out this link: http://www.snoopyshomeice.com/ It's to the rick that he built. He was also an adult hockey player and started a competition that is pretty much the adult hockey players' main international competition. (Read about it in my son's hockey magazine.)

Ah hah, so someone else remembers that video beside myself :). That thing was on ages ago. I loved that special when I first saw it and remembered how realistic the skating animation was. I'm not sure why it didn't become one of the classics that get shown on TV year after year.

Charles Schultz died a year or two ago at a pretty advanced age, so I'm guessing his daughter is at least middle-aged by now and is likely not skating competitively anymore. Everything I've read indicated that she skated as a kid, not that she was an adult skater. Any fame she acquired likely had more to do with who her father was than her actual skating accomplishments. I've never heard of her except in relation to her father.

Dana, the Schultz family was just a family who liked to skate, just like thousands of families across the country. The whole family skated, and played hockey. (Some families play baseball, some play basketball, some families swim or do gymnastics...and some families skate. That's all.) Not everyone who skates is 'famous' in any sense of the word. 99.99% of skaters just skate because it's a fun activity, not for any kind of fame. Just because someone skates doesn't mean that you'll see them on TV, or that they have fan websites. Heck, I skate, and you'll never see me on TV! I take my nieces and nephews skating--because it's fun. No one's going to be famous because of it. So, in short, while there may be family photographs of Charles Shultz's daughter and family skating, they're not likely to be on the web. It's like your family vacation photos...are you famous if you've visited New York City? Some people who visit New York are famous...most are not. Same with skating.

Wait...Peppermint Patty and Snoopy are still practicing (at 5am!) This week they skate in kilian position to do an ice dance (Dutch Waltz?) I think that Patty's putting everything in her routine.
Lots of fun to read.

They continue skating until the 6th, the 7th is a comic about Charlie Brown slipping on ice, and then Lucy and Snoopy are back for the 8th and 9th.
