why is he only skating one scoring event and one non-scoring event in the GP. It is still very likely that he will make the GP final with his 12 points from skate america but why only one scoring event? At least at isu.org it says that skate america was a scoring event and he is entered into the nhk but as a non scoring event. Is this correct or did they miss something and if it is correct why did he decide to do that? Any one have an answer for this one?
Gobel originally signed up to compete in SA, China, and Japan. He was eligible to receive points in two of the three events so he designated Japan as his non-scoring event.
Tim withdrew from Skate America due to equipment problems and scored 12 points in China. The rules do not allow him to change the competition in Japan to a scoring event.

Timmy withdrew from Skate America, which was his first scoring event, so he got no points. His 12 points are from Cup of China. Hence technically this is his 3rd event. It's not allowed to change your scoring events once the GP has begun, even if the skater misses something through injury.
He probably will go to GPF since, even though Timmy can't win any points himself, he can block others from getting more points just by being there. I think Tim wouldn't go IF Abt won, Joubert was 2nd AND Buttle was in the top 5. Unlikely! But there are loads of possible tie-break situations with Abt and Joubert.
