Just got home from the show. I had a really nice time, but my notes are sketchy. They used total theatrical lighting so it was really hard to write down anything.

General comments - The ice didn't look too good. There was a Cavs game last night. The show tonight started at 5pm, so I don't think that there was enough time for the ice to get hard enough after the crowds from last night. The mayor of Cleveland gave the opening remarks. Besides the theatrical lighting, they also used the small SOI type ice surface. The eligible skaters seemed to have a hard time adjusting to the small surface.

Opening - ladies in black velvet, men in cream shirts with black pants. Group 1 - Paul Wylie, Roz Summers, and Caryn Kadavy. Group 2 - Silvia Fontana, Ryan Janke, and Parker Pennington. The usual SOI spotlight type number.

Scott Hamilton - Rock and Roll number, The usual type of number from Scott - all jumps were doubles (but 2 double axels). Plus 2 backflips. Barrel roll turns. Maybe it was my perspective, but Scott seems so much slower.

Isabelle and Lloyd - ballad ("A Friend to Me" ??), her - purple sequins, him - all black. This was a new number to me. Really nice - soft and flowing, but still with the usual tricks.

Ryan Janke - Frank Sinatra "That's Life", black pants with white shirt and undone bow tie. The usual great line and stretch from Ryan. He really struggled with the small surface, but ended nicely.

Silvia Fontana - Scott introduced her as skating her first pro show and as Silvia Fontana Zimmerman. Not my taste - think brunette Nicole program but not as nice.

Rod Raines - He plays Alan Spaulding on Guiding Light. Boy, does he have a wonderful voice.:D I never knew that he also sang. I was totally impressed - think Robert Goulet type. Music - Begin the Beguine (sp?). He spent the rest of the show in the audience watching the remaining performances.

Parker Pennington - I was impressed; he skated the only program to live music - The Impossible Dream sung by Rod Raines. He has really turned into a wonderful spinner! :D

Caryn Kadavy - pale blue one shoulder dress. Music - Gaelic female ballad - it was somewhat familiar. Very flowing performance. With the lack of professional events, I really enjoyed seeing the various pro skaters. In years before, you think oh not that program again, but now it's a nice refreshing performance to see them again. Caryn is coming off ACL surgery and I think that this was her first show back.

Paul Wylie - Music - "Let Me Be Your Hero". Well for someone who hasn't skated seriously in awhile, he pretty close to being fully back. The speed, footwork, and spins are ALL there. The jumps were just doubles, but nice ones. I had forgotten how quiet he is on his blades. Another treat!

Roz - Music - Shania Twain ("You've Got a Way with Me", I think.). Dress - pink sequins. Dedicated to Bob Kain. It was also nice to see her back on the ice.

K. Orscher/G. Lucash - purple/black. Music - rock ballad. Still somewhat rough, but much better and more relaxed than either Skate America or Skate Canada.

Aretha Franklin - She was the main musical guest. Several numbers including RESPECT (of course). By the way, I didn't know that she also played the piano. She accompanied herself on a couple of numbers.

Second Group Number - Skated to live music by Aretha Franklin of "Freeway". Group 1 - Ryan/Silvia/Parker. Group 2 - Roz/Paul/Caryn. Finally Orscher/Lucash.

Surprise Guest - Jumpin' Joe. I thought that I had seen him in the skaters "on-ramp" during Aretha Franklin jumping up and down warming up. That's was an unannounced surprise, and he wasn't in the program. The usual rock anthem type program.

Isabelle and Lloyd - Another new number - a "fun" one. He played the nerd while she was the bad girl.

Sasha Cohen - Skated her Romeo and Juliet exhibition number.

Scott Hamilton - Closing number. Music was "One Life" I think. The usual ballad stuff.

At the very end, Scott introduced Tracy, his wife who was in the front row. She looked great - you would never think that they had just had a baby. The final guest introduced was their son in his very first public appearance. :P :P

They're not televising this show. I believe that they taped the earlier one for TV. This show is done every year in Cleveland as a benefit performance for Scott's charity.

The other "Scott and Friends" show was already televised on a French channel in Canada a few weeks ago, so I'd say it's a safe bet this is the one that won't be broadcast. Too bad--it sounded like a great show!
