Åsa Persson stops to compete
News from Skate Sweden and swedish newspapers:

Åsa Persson give up her dream about competing in the olympics. She stops to compete and her focus will be on a proffessional carreer in ice-shows.

- I don´t have any motivation any longer. It has been to much with injuries and illnes, and I feel that I is to far behind the top skaters in the world, Åsa Persson says in a mobilphone from Canada , there she lives and practise.

In Åsa´s whole life the focus has been on her figureskating. The 20-year old has practised very hard to achieve the best in the world and her focus has been the olympics in Turino 2006.

Åsa did qualify to the olympics in Salt Lake City 2002 - but the swedish olympic commite didn´t send her after her bad showing at the Europeans the same year. There will not be a new olympics in two years and no more competitions at all.

-Not as a feel now. I don´t feel that is as fun as before to compete anymore.

Her career has had many injuries and illnesses. The injurybreaks has been up to a year long - periods that Åsa has focused to come back again. Over and over again.

After that she has been ill for two months this season , Åsa don´t has the motivation to start over again.

-It feels so hopeless. My practise this summer has gone very good, I was in very good physical shape - and now I had to do all the hard work over again, to build up my strange and so on...

At the same time Åsa has worked to stay on the same level, the best skaters in the world has continued to develop. As Åsa has worked on her tripplejumps again and again, the other skaters has moved on with tripple-tripple combinations and tripple axel...

Now Åsa feel that she is to far behind.

-I don´t want to go to World ore Olympics to be a tourist. If a skater I am skating for the medals.

Åsa has no plans to give up her skating. Now she will focus on a new career as a proffessional skater in one of the skating shows that tour in Europe and USA, "Disney" ore "The carrebean crouse ships".

-There is not any question if I will get a part, it is when. I think that it will be very good for me. The fokus will be on the presentation and not on the jumps.

Sad to hear.:( How disppointing for her. I hope she gets completely well and enjoys her pro career. Skating on the Royal Caribbean cruise ship line could be really fun!
