I pasted this on the news page but I guess it belongs here too....

Hello all,

I just wanted to let you know that the Liberty Open (July 16-20, Newark, DE) competition roster is now up at the official website. Looks like a pretty large and exciting competition this year!

Click on the Group Assignments

Some notable names...

Senior Ladies- Daria Timoshenko (former world Jr. champ from Russia, now skating for Azerbaijan), Lisa Horstman, Lauren Thomas, Andrea Varraux, Stephanie Roth, Shayna Syken, Kristin Tudisco, Jen McClure, Dirke Baker (NZL).......

Sr Men- Derrick Delmore, Ryan Bradley, Scott Smith, Ryan Jahnke, Shaun Rogers, Danny Clausen, Rohene Ward, Eric Ritter, Kurt Fromknect, Brad Griffies, Chris Vaeth

Jr Ladies-- many big names, including Bobrick, Sheaffer, Agler, Emily Hughes, Ponichtera, Leski (POL), Kristen Mita, Kristine Lee, Megan Stewart, Jane Bugaeva, Kristina Moore, Hadford, Peng, Archambault, Lovasik......

Jr Men-- Wong, Aronowitz, Rouse, Gibbs, Solonoski, Abrahams, Evancho, Serpe, McGraw, Kaplan, Weintraub, Bruni, Abbott.....

Jr Pairs should be a great competition with Evora/Ladwig, Varraux/Pelletier, Jordan/Barrett, and Maltby/Murphy all competing.

Sr Pairs is a Phibbs/Patrick exhibition and novice pairs includes the debut of Chloe Katz in pairs...

There are tons of novice men and ladies.........you can see for yourself. :) I'll be there and I'm sure reports of this comp. will not be hard to come by this year.......

Actually, Katz has been skating pairs with Joseph Lynch for a couple of seasons already - they have a NACS Novice pairs assignment in Canada later this summer.

It *is* a fabulous roster, I agree, but just be aware that last-minute scratches from/no shows at club competitions can be quite common. Also, oftentimes, some skaters will end up competing in just the SP if their LP isn't ready, etc.

I thought it was strange, though, that they are signed up for Intermediate, and only Novice Short.
I would have thought that they would have moved up to Novice, and not just be testing the waters, so to speak.
Especially since they are receiving NACS assignments.
Maybe they want to win the Int Pairs title, but I would think moving up would be a better decision for the future.

I believe Katz & Lynch received a fairly last-minute NACS assignment, so it's possible they had already registered for their Liberty events prior to their invite.

I noticed Traighe Rouse's name in Junior men - he was out all last season with a pretty serious injury - nice to see he's back!

That may be true - that Katz-Lynch just received their NACS assignment.
But it doesn't explain why they are staying in Intermediate. Especially since she is skating Senior Ladies in singles. Yes I know that pairs and singles are different and require different elements - but skating down 3 levels is kind of like sand-bagging to me. Didn't Lynch also skate singles at a higher level?
I would also think that showing they can compete at Novice would do better for their future. I would think that moving up would get them more exposure. Are they having problems with throws or lifts that would keep them down in Intermediate? I can't imagine that side-by-side jumps are a problem, or she wouldn't be skating singles.
I'm not trying to put them down, as I haven't even seen them skate, but based on her skating Senior singles, I would think they would be higher in level. Andrea Varraux just started with her partner, and is skating at a higher level (I think Junior pairs), and she's also a Senior lady.

Sylvia,

Why were my posting priveleges revoked at Unseen Skaters? Is this a technical problem with the forum or is this something personal that I did?Email me at ethanb992003@yahoo.com thanks......

haribobo (and all others who might have this problem),

It seems to be a technical glitch on the Unseen board... I can't post either! ;) I've alerted the board owner about it and hopefully it can be resolved ASAP. Thanks for your patience in the meantime.

Maybe it's simply because their Novice LP isn't ready yet? They may still be moving up to Novice this season... guess we'll just have to wait and see.

It seems only 4 of our girls (one pulled out) are going:

Apparently Shaun Rogers is doing SP only at this one. Sure looks like a good competition though.

I definitely want to go over tomorrow night. I'll probably get there around 4:30. I'm waiting to find out if one of my friends is going to come over or if I'm going it alone... The whole schedule looks great... Saturday will be an all day event as well. I'm not sure when I'll get over there on Friday. It'll probably be late afternoon again.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll see you over there!
