Thanks for the link. I always like to read any info about John Curry. If you need his date of death, it is April 15, 1994. There were also several articles written about him in People, Dance, & After Dark magazines. His ice theatre show was reviewed in Time among other magazines. The actual pages from the program of the John Curry Skating show were scanned on Dorothy Hamill's website last time I checked.

Thanks for the link and the website. :D
Could you tell me who's the woman in the picture in the middle (pictures page)? And from what occasion this picture is taken? And - btw - is there a chance you might include the bigger version of the pics?

It is hard to tell from such a small photo, but it looks to me like that is from the "Tango Tango" program with JoJo Starbuck.

Thanks for the link Nick. One point of query - you write Manchester, England as the Place of Residence in the Profile section, but John was born in Birmingham, where his family came from and still live. His Mother Rita spoke movingly about him in a recent TV documentary. Try a search on Channel4.com to see if there is still some info up on their website about John [at the time of the broadcast they had pages of text, photos and links]. AFAIK I don't think John ever lived in Manchester.
The Tango routine performed by John and Jo Jo Starbuck [a US Pairs Skater] was one of the greatest show numbers of all time! It was performed in the early 1980s, and part of John's Company Tour that performed at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 84 and broadcast on the BBC.
Dorothy Hamill was in the US leg of that Tour, and [as Skatewind says] she had all the pages of the Programme, including a personal message from John to her, scanned on her website, but last time I looked it was no longer there.
You can see a video clip here of John winning the BBC Sports Personality Award for 1976 [voted for by viewers]. There's a 6min clip of him receiving the award, or you can watch the whole programme that was broadcast live at the time, which I'm sure includes John's Olympic performance. I haven't watched it yet, so I can't give you a guide to the time to fast forward to [perhaps someone else can].

It is the 50th Anniversary of the show this December, so the BBC have made all these clips available online. Also are Robin Cousins, winner in 1980, and Torvill and Dean winners in 1984 of the main award, and in 82 and 83 the Team Award. In the 1982 programme, you can see them dancing a Rock and Roll number on a makeshift ice pad put down by the BBC in the TV Studio. That's from 46min till 54min.
They're all on RealOne Player.

Too bad the program is no longer available online. I have some, but no scanner or I'd post for you.

Thank You very much for those links!
Living in London, I'd never seen those local TV news clips from Nottingham before, so it was fascinating to see moving pictures of events I'd only read about before in the NISA UK magazine.
The statue is certainly very beautiful, and a fitting tribute to John at the Headquarters of UK Skating. [That was 2001 BTW]. With the cream of British Skating and John's lovely Mum to unveil it.... But sad aswell that he was taken so young.

You're very welcome Nick. :D
Glad to know that John's Skating Legacy still survives and goes on around the world.
John Curry was a unique and beautiful skater, a shy man and inhibited character, who expressed his personality through skating.
He will always hold a special place in the hearts of fans the world over, and that's some comfort to cope with the sadness of his death.

La Rhumba, is a DVD or video available of the documentary about John Curry you mentioned earlier?

Sorry, no, not that I know of, and I don't have the ability to copy, so I can't do it for you. :(
You could try asking the publicity dept. at Channel 4 in the UK.

I've just checked the website, and some info is still up about the "Real Lifes" programme broadcast earlier this year in a History strand.

Perhaps it might come up in a tape trade list somewhere.
Good Luck! :D
