Ok... Going on another rant here. Only 3 Canadians in the entire competition? One lady and one pair? Do we not get to send any men or dancers? What's going on up in Skate Canada world?

Only 1 Aussie Guy and 1 Dance Couple, this competition is too close to Aussie Nationals, but we usually have a lady! :(

Well, quite a big field of Canadians was sent to Bofrost. Maybe this is the reason for a smaller field here?

There was an Australian Lady scheduled to compete at Golden Spin but due to unforeseen circumstances they were unable to attend.

This competition is not too close to the Australian Nationals, Australia nearly always sends skaters to this event. Actually it is a perfect event just prior to Nationals for some of the skaters.

Shuey, I knew that. I was wondering why other Australian ladies haven't been asked. We have the spot if we want it, surely every Australian senior lady is eligible for it? (granted, there aren't that many, but I would have thought Australia could find one who would want to go). The less experienced ladies would probably jump at the chance, I know of at least one who would, even if she came last. Is there an experience requirement (from either the competition or ISA)?

I didn't mean too close to Nationals (sorry, don't know why I wrote that), but it is close to Nationals. This can work for or against, depending on the skater.

I can explain it as follows.

Skaters who represent Australia at international competitions and championships are selected by Ice Skating Australia based on the results of the Australian Championships each year. Only those skaters who are named to the Australian Squad are eligible to represent internationally.

Skaters are chosen based on the results and performances at the Championships and it is usually only the Top 3 placegetters who are selected to the Australian Squad.

Hope this helps with understanding how skaters are chosen.

Who, forgot to mention that sometimes they will announce Top 4 skaters in Senior, dependant on performance standards. As an example the Top 3 Senior Ladies and Top 4 Senior Men were nominated to the national squad for the season 2003-2004.

Thanks for the info Shuey...if one of the selected skaters decides to quit skating altogether, is another skater selected to take his/her place? Or tough luck and wait for Nationals?? It's almost a year since the three skaters were selected and a lot has happened!

If a skater quits it is unfortunate but yes it is tough luck and all skaters have to wait until Nationals to attempt to qualify to be on the team.

Bring on Nationals! :)

Yeah, I agree, should be a good championship. The Junior and Senior divisions will be the most interesting, cannot wait.

Ordinals for the men's short event are all over the place (there's a Bulgarian skater who got a 2nd and a 19th which is 2nd to last and most of the other guys have almost as impressive range).

With ordinals like those seen in the results it would indicate that the skating was either very even amongst the top 15 or very bad. It is not just one judge who was all over the place.

It looks like the skating wasn't so good. When the first place competitor gets SP tech marks from 4.5 to 4.8, pres marks 4.6-5.0, jumping to the "splatfast" conclusion is pretty easy. It's hard for judges to decide who was "less bad", LOL!
