I believe the U.S. has never won an Olympic or a World gold in Ice Dance. Can anyone confirm this?

This is true.
I sure don't want to get ahead of myself, but Belbin and Agosto could be headed in that direction in the next year or two. It's not a perfect comparison, but their score at Skate America was actually higher than the winning score at Skate Canada. It doesn't necessarily mean that they are in gold contention this year, but of the 4 couples who beat them at Worlds who are competing this year, they've beaten 1 at Skate America, and posted higher scores at Skate America than the other 3 did at Skate Canada. You can't tell for sure until B/A skate head-to-head with the 3 who were at Skate Canada, but it certainly is interesting so far.

The can't compete in 2006 though, can they?
Can someone explain to me why? I know it's because of Tanith's lack of American citizenship, but why does it take so long to get it?

As of now, I think the answer is 'no.' I was more referring to 2004 Worlds. (I don't know why it takes so long for citizenship, maybe someone else knows).
I've often thought skating eligibility would be better if it were like tennis: it doesn't matter what country you are from, if you're ranked high enough in the world, you get to go to Wimbledon, period.

I corrected the link above, you need to put the correct link in the second box, it doesn't matter what you put in the first. I just copy and pasted your text into the address line.

The first World title in ice dancing was handed out in 1952, but in 1950 and '51, there were ice dancing competitions at Worlds to see if ice dance could be part of Worlds. (Like the demonstration sports at the Olympics.)
In 1950, the US won the "demonstration" ice dancing competition. (Does anyone remember who?) So technically, the US has won a gold medal at Worlds in dance, just not an offical World title.

(who thinks B/A have great potential, but just hopes they stay together long enough to reach it!)
