Alexei wanted to show his appreciation to Canadian fans for their support of his amateur career, so he asked to be part of the gala on Sunday afternoon. His career will be celebrated with a special ceremony. CTV will air the gala Saturday, November 8, 7 pm Pacific.

That's really nice. I wish we could see it here.

I will never forget that first skate of Gladiator at Skate Canada...nor the look on Yagudin's face when he realized he had a pop-out-of-your-seat standing ovation! On that day, he turned from being a warrior into being a warrior/artist.

Those things tend to stick in my mind and at the time, they make me tear up.
