The last I heard she was training again. Is she going to be in any of the events this year?

She was at Finlandia, where she finished 11th. Someone said she was only doing doubles at this event. I believe her next competition will be Nationals, unless she has to do Sectionals first to get there. Anyone know if she has a bye all the way through?

Angela must place in the top 4 at Pacific Coast Sectionals, Nov. 11-15, in Vancouver, Washington, in order to make it to 2004 Nationals. The current roster of senior ladies, in addition to Angela, consists of:
SWP1 Naomi Nari Nam, All Year FSC
SWP3 Felicia Beck, All Year FSC
SWP4 Yvonne Leung, All Year FSC
SWP5 Christina Duclos, All Year FSC
CP1 Stephanie Rosenthal, Utah FSC
CP2 Laura Lipetski, Peninsula SC
CP3 Joan Cristobal, Peninsula SC
CP4 Ahnah Lee, St. Moritz ISC
NWP1 Erica Aden, Tri-Cities FSC
NWP2 Christina Gordon, Alaska Assoc of FS
NWP3 Aanya Reiten, Lakewood Winter Club
NWP4 Olivia Olsen, Seattle SC

I'm only familiar with a few of those competitor's, but it doesn't look as though it's going to be a free ride to Nationals for Nikodinov at all. :??

If she does make it to Nationals, I think she is one of thsoe skaters who will really benefit by the COP due to the quality of her jumps, layback, etc.

I agree Roma ... the only thing is, Nationals will be scored the old way. No COP at Nats or Worlds this season.

You're right! I forgot!!!! But it would be great to see her at Nats, and I think under the 6.0 sytem she can do well, too, as she has in the past.

Really? I was not aware of this. I feel as though I have been living under a rock! When will the CoP be used for Nationals and for Worlds?

It will have to be approved by the ISU Congress in 2004 in order to be used for the 2005-2006 Worlds and 2006 Olympics (they have a congress every two years, I believe). I'd be surprised if it doesn't pass.

The USFSA doesn't have to adopt it for nationals (they've still never switched from the ordinal system to OBO, right?), but considering how different it is from the current system, I would assume they'll want their world and Olympic team selected under whatever scoring system will be used for those events. It would be one thing if it was just a minor change, but it's such a huge difference that I can't imagine nationals still using the old system after COP is in use at worlds.

I live in Washington state and might be able to go! Is there a website with information like times, location, map, etc. somewhere?

The USFSA events page is here -

Lots of links for all sectionals as well as other competitions.

I've posted a complete Pacific Coast Sectionals roster with link to the host club in this thread in the "US Qualifying" forum:

Hope you can make it and report back here on your impressions of the skating! :)

About CoP (which I'm starting to like, scary thought...):

At the National level, I can see it working quite easily, from a USFSA/judges PoV. But to have it set up at Sectionals/Regionals - just the from the technological standpoint, the ability to get the computer systems working in some less than stellar rinks, and to have the staff available to get it running/maintaining it sounds like a lot of $$$. Plus, to have enough judges trained to use the system well would be quite an undertaking.

I do remember reading somewhere that there is a paper/pen version of CoP that could be used at this level, but to me it sounds like more chances for bookkeeping errors!

And to get back on topic - I'm wishing Angela the best, and hope she gets to Nationals this year!

According to an article in the current BOI magazine she worked with Igor Pashkevich to prepare for Finlandia. Prior to that she is quoted as saying, "I was training at home by myself, & you can only do so much by yourself." I don't know who she is training with now.

Yes, she won the final in Portland so she goes to Natnls. She was last to skate in the free and skated "safely". I hope she does well in Atlanta! A sweet person!

That's good news. More reason to look forward to the Nats.
