Brian talks about Yags in new interview - says Cup of China is his first event - I thought it was SC - maybe I got him confused with Jeannette, LOL.
Anyway, very sweet when he talks about his idol.....

I love what he said here:

I don't like Plushenko's skating, it's -- how do you say, um, too "showy?"

Ha! I couldn't agree more, Brian. ;)

He's wrong on the Euros front - Abt should have won that event, but Yags was held up (yet again).

Jobert is compared to Yagudin because he skates like Yagudin did when he first competed...has the same kind of solid and fluid edge and moves his body similarly...great carriage, and very powerful. He is not as good overall as Yagudin was then.

I thought Abt should have won Euros too...but not by a lot, it was close enough that I didn't get all bent out of shape by it, but I would have liked to see Abt get an important win...IMHO Abt is such a great skater, but just not as consistent on the jumps.

Jobert also said that Plushenko was a great skater...seemed to be saying that he didn't like Plushenko's style...which is more of an aesthetic matter; he didn't deny Plushy's mastery of skating.

I like Plushenko...don't always like his programs, but at Campbells, I sure did. He is really a magnificent skater...incredible jumps, just stuck most of them, with plen--ty of time to check out, LOL, solid as a rock, and great air position and his footwork was fabulous, I thought.

I don't dispute that yags is the greater skater overall, but Abt should have won that night. I was there and he totally brought the house down. The skate Gods were on his side for once and it was the skate of his life.

Interesting article, although I totally disagree with him about Euros. It was Abt's night. He should have won, IMO.
