I"m glad I submitted my Fantasy Skating team after he and Yags withdrew. Made forming a team that much easier. *sigh*

What does he mean, difficulty with my equipment? Is he talking about his skates? Excuse my ignorance, but I don't understand how one can all of a sudden have trouble with skates. Do you think maybe he's grown or maybe weight shifted(bigger shoulders) or something. Could it be all the jumping while training? I know it can affect kids who are still growing. Can someone explain? I'll sure miss him at this Grand Prix. Get well Timmy!

yes, you can have lots of trouble with skates. I'm having trouble with mine currently. Read the USFSA article. It explains thoroughly.

Yes, imagine skating full blast in practice and having your boot separate from the heel. That would throw you off for sure.

I read the article, and I guess I am confused as to why he is having so much trouble and why this is a consistent problem for him. I say this because usually elite skaters have a favorite boot/blade that they use, and break in a new pair of skates for each season. So, they are uncomfortable for a few weeks while breaking them in, but after that seem to be fine with their skate of choice.

From the article it sounds like he goes through quite a few skates each season, and is having a very hard time finding one that works for him this season--realizing that skate problems can be an issue, I am confused why this process is so difficult for him.

I can't find the article, but we have a young man who goes through boots in weeks, certainly not a season. Some boots have only lasted days...They just don't hold together. He is senior level doing triples and attempting quads.

Since someone mentioned the boot separating at the heel...that is exactly what happens to this skater too.

Even if a skater has a certain brand and style of boots they feel comfortable with, boots are made by hand and every pair is slightly different due to natural variations in the leather. Plus, a skater's feet can change over time, due to bunions, bone spurs, or injuries. Some years ago I was having problems with plantar fasciatis (arch pain) and I could not even get my feet into my old boots without instant and excruciating pain. I had to get re-fitted for boots in a wider width and start using a foam arch support insert.

Elite skaters who are doing as many triples and quads as Tim, BTW, definitely go through more than one pair of boots every year. But I understand Tim's problem is with the fit of the boots and not with the boots falling apart on him.

My first pair of true true figure skating boots separated from the boot at the heel.

My second pair, customs no less, were horribly painful. It took many tinkering sessions and a trip to the manfacturer to finally get them right. This took over a year.

I read on another board that he has been having major
problems with his skates and that he was just fitted
for Klingbeils. Someone who was there indicated
Mr. Klingbeil said his feet were in bad shape.

Poor fitting boots can cause pain, sores and injury
to you feet.

Both Tim and Michelle have said that they've a problems with boots - Tim's sounds more serious, but Michelle also briefly mentioned her boot problems at Campbell's, during an interview with Peter C. Does anyone know what boots they wear? Is Michelle in Harlicks? What did Tim wear before going to the boot king (AKA Mr. Klingbeil!)?

Schmeck, not so happy with her Reidells right now, actually, and understanding a bit of the frustration Tim must be going through!
