I was in Hamilton at Kurt's show, the very true rumour has it that Shae and Vic will retire after this year(2003).Vic is fed up.
He wants to go back to school and get married.
His partnership is more than just Shae-Lynn, he also has to deal with Mr Morozov. I sure hope they keep skating!!!!!They would truly be miss.

I say, good for him. Any idea what he wants to study at school?

A while back I read that Victor was interested in becoming a veterinarian like his father.

You mean they won't perform/tour together as pros? We've known since before 2003 Worlds that they wouldn't compete anymore...

very true rumor? lol, isn't that an oxymoron?

I hope Shae and Vic skate pro for a couple years before retiring. I know it's for selfish reasons though.LOL I respect Victor wanting to go back to school, and wanting to spend time with his wife after their wedding, but those two sure would be missed!

The Pro career will end in December 2003.
What do they have schedule till then?

What about COI? I was sure they had signed with Collins for another four years, the first of which would have been last year. I could have that wrong, but I was really pretty sure that's what I had heard. I'll be very disappointed if they're calling it quits, because I think they both have a lot more to offer, but I can understand Victor wanting to try school again- just like I'd love to quit school and just skate!

I think they had planned on doing COI for three more years, but have instead sort of gone their separate ways. Perhaps it is because there won't be a Winter Tour any more, or perhaps Vic would like to pursue "life after skating" beginning sooner than later... time will tell, but it seems Shae is fairly settled coaching with Nikolai.

How do you know this?
They have a show in London Ontario sometime, I can't remember when exactly. I don't know if they have anything else scheduled or not.

Its just a "rumour" and until B&K give an "Official" announcement, then I'm not going to even worry about it.

Here's a link from IFS that was posted on a Shae and Vic board...

New Beginning (http://www.ifsmagazine.com/glg/article.php?story=2003101313514786)

This doesn't sound like they're retiring really, just that they're looking for opportunities now with the Winter COI tour being no more. I don't know, I found it kinda reasuring, despite it's ambiguity. What do you all think?

I really didn't want to believe this rumor is true...but I'm afraid it just might be. There's a new article on the Hamilton Spectator website with the headline "Bourne, Kraatz split up."

You can find the headline at http://www.hamiltonspectator.com/ (just scroll down to the sports section), but unfortunately, you now have to register at the Spectator to read the whole thing.

I wasn't at the Gotta Skate show last weekend, but from all the reviews I've read so far from people who were there, Victor looked like he was having a great time (and his solo work at the show was considered one of the highlights) and his performances definitely didn't sound like they came from a guy planning to hang up his skates anytime soon!

Does anyone here get the print version of the Spectator and can sum up the rest of the article--as curious as I am to find out the whole story, I really don't want to give out my phone number over the Internet (which the Spectator requires you to do in order to register) in order to read it.

But even though I'll miss B&K tremendously on the ice, I certainly wish both of them happiness and the best of luck in whatever they decide to do in the future! :)

Here's a summary of the article quickly before i go to class.

It says that they will honour committments until Mid-December and then will stop skating together. Skate Canada and their agent are expected to make the announcement today. Shae would like to keep skating and Stars on Ice is mentioned as a possible alternative. The article says that Kraatz hinted the partnership would not continue but Bourne says Victor shocked her two weeks ago.

Shae describes it...like it's a marriage and now a divorce and she wants to get married again. She also goes on to say Victor wanted to do the 11 SOI shows this spring but she doesn't feel it's right to do a farewell tour when she doesn't want to say goodbye. She also says she feels sad for Canadians because she knows we want to see them skate and she says it was not a mutual decision.

The articles talks a bit about how they got together. Shae goes on to say that not they are going to be creative and skate without pressure. She also says she wishes Victor happiness and she respects him for being honest with her (but she doesn't like it)...

That's basically the main jist of the article without writing the whole thing here.

i summed up the article under skating news (check the other section). Basically Victor came to Sae 2 weeks ago and said he was finished. She was not happy and everyone tried to convince him to stay a bit longer. Though it was amicable, she let it be known it was his decision alone. They will honour their commitments until mid-Dec.

The Spec online is for subscribers only. So if you get the print version at home you can access the online one.

I too am really disapointed. I just posted here last night saying that it was just a rumour, and until B&K made an official announcement, then I was just not going to worry about it. Well this morning I read the article on the Bladers List, and am so sad to hear that this is going to be it for B&K. Its NOT the news I wanted to hear let me tell you.

*sniff sniff*

I am so disapointed. I guess this past weekend at Gotta Skate was my last time I will have seen B&K skate LIVE. Now I wish I was going to their show in London. How sad. B&K looked so sharp on Sat. night at Gotta Skate, and YES Victor did look like he was having a BLAST !!!! I just loved their numbers, especially their 1st one performed by Micheal Bubble. It was just awesome.

*sniff sniff*

I am still in complete shock. I can't believe this !!

Anyone up for an emergency BK Bladers' chat tomorrow night? I leave for Skate America on Thursday so I won't be there, and I don't know if anyone else is going, but I can't imagine not chatting with you all this week. I totally didn't see this coming.

Your impressions are exactly right!! I was there, and Vic was on fire, Shae was on fire, their "Sway" number with Michael Buble singing live was amazing (worth the price of admission alone, IMO ... of course I'd be there anyway because of Kurt!!) No hint at all of what was coming! Consummate professionals ... gave us everything they had, and more!! :) Gonna really miss them! :(

Good Idea CanAm! - I've sent a message to the Bladers list. I'll try and head to the chat room around 8:30PM EST or so.
