I've said this before - if you get a chance, go for an ISCC/Simsbury show. They seem to have it well figured out - almost always a great cast of skaters and a variety of programs, so its not just a bunch of show programs like Champions On Ice is. I was there early this year and also for Viktory for Kids back in like 2001, and I would say this is the best show I've seen so far.
Jazmyn Manzouri (short program) - 2-axel that was slight cheated, 3-sal/2-toe, 2-flip. Program had good content including Biellmann spins.
Colin Pennington - he didn't look too sharp in his jumps, fell going into a loop.
Julia Vlausov (show program?) - her skating quality is definitely Novice level, not Intermediate, very nice/easy 3-toe in the program.
Kulikova & Novikov (OD/FD?) - they did two programs, first might have been an OD and the 2nd their FD... the 2nd program was to an Elvis medley I believe. The first program included a lot of quick running toe steps. He seems to have caught up with her somewhat in dancing ability from the first time I saw them, but she's still the stronger of the two.
Parker Pennington - skating to piano & violin classical music - 3A?/2T with a step out there somewhere, 2A, circular footwork, camel spin/back camel spin, 3F, flying sit spin, 3LZ?/2 or 3T? combo that I kind of missed, but I thought it was a lutz entry, forward spiral. Parker has a lot of personality in his skating.
Andrei Griazev (long/short programs) - first program had a lot of jump content - 2-axel/3-toe, 3-axel, 1-lutz, 3-flip, 3-sal/3-toe, 3-loop, 2-sal. His circular footwork sequence is fast and not the Alexei-type steps. The 2nd program was far messier - he looked tired.
Orscher & Lucash (short/exhibition programs) - I believe they did a new short program, and an exhibition program they had previously. Split 2-twist, 3-toes (she saved hers), throw 3-sal (saved). They did like a total of 3 throw 3-sals, none were perfect... 2 saved landings, one she fell out on the landing. They do look much more secure in their lifts and stronger in that regard, plus nice unison in SBS spins.
Chait & Sakhnovsky (two programs) - First program they had clown-like looking outfits, absolutely hideous, and kills any sense of line/etc that might be derived. Distracts you from watching their skating so I tuned out. 2nd program I didn't pay too much attention to either.
Dan Hollander (two programs) - First program he had was a play on sounds, like each time he made a move/skate it would cause a sound and different moves would create different sounds, pretty nifty. Second program I've seen before, he has this oversized red coat on first then later turns to an old lady. That program is quite a crowd pleaser!
Alexei Yagudin (3 programs - Feelings, ?, Crazy Benny/racecar) - I don't believe he's gotten back all his jumps, and probably never will become competitive again. Too bad - but he did have 3-flips and a 3-toe/3-toe combo. Its the footwork and variations in all 3 programs that showcases what he's really great at though, and I'm certain he's going to be pleasing fans for a long time with what he has to offer. 3 programs in one night, and the last he kept up the energy levels for, the crowd loved it too.
Sasha Cohen (Romeo & Juliet and Malaguena) - Romeo & Juliet, wearing the same dress she used at Worlds for R&J. Absolutely beautiful to watch - this time I'm really close to the ice, and you can see how perfect this program is for Sasha. Beautiful perfect 2-axel and 3-toe, a clean 3-sal with a little too much knee bend on the landing leg. There's a new spin in the program - camel/upgright spin. When i the upright position, she leans to one side first, changes her back position while spinning - very unusual and interesting! Partial standing ovation, and it was well deserved.
Second program she did was to Malaguena, wearing a new yellow dress. It looks very classy on her, and classical like a showy type dress used in the past, plus I love the hairdo! She limited jump content in this program, skipping the usual lutz/toe doing a 3-toe (didn't check the landing, fell out, beautiful takeoff and in the air), skipping the flip totally, and did a beautiful 2-axel. The rest of the program looks rock solid - footwork is done with such ease now and overall her skating looks to be faster/stronger.
