We are looking at hotel space for Nationals and, as usual, we could use some suggestions. We like to stay at hotels that are close to the "Official" hotels or near the arenas so that we can use the transportation system. In the past we have stayed in brouwnstone apartments in Boston, at the Figeuroa in L.A. (very funky but fun), in longterm stay condo's etc.
Could someone suggest some hotels that are near the Marta, or the official hotels or the areanas. Maybe something that is a little older or a little funky, but still a safe, good place to stay.

I don't know of any old/funky hotels in Atlanta and I'm not sure what you're willing to spend. Can you tell me how much is too much and I can probably give you some info.

I believe I remember reading that there is an Embassy Suites within a block or two of the arena (although I'm not 100% certain on that). I love the Embassy Suites because they serve a full breakfast instead of the continental crap that most hotels serve. :)

The Embassy Suites are right across the street from the Philips Arena but, from what I have heard they are totally booked up now.
You can try the CNN hotel or the Westin. I am sure you will pay at least $65 a night or more.
We live 30 miles east of Atlanta and I am going to take Marta in every day. I know where I can park for free and the pass for Marta is only $13 and that is for a whole week. IMO that isn't too bad of a price.
The Westin for $65 a night????? Think more like $265 a night. Those peoploe are crazy.

I think it depends on what floor you stay on and which side. They can be expensive but, they do have cheap rooms. Of course not sure if those rooms include a bathroom or not.

Beth, stop scaring people, lol, I don't know of any room at the Westin that don't have bathrooms. It isn't some skanky hotel in Europe where they make you share. My advice, when you make a reservation make sure you are near the MARTA; at this point it might be hard to get a room really, really close. I can't say I'd want to stay at any of the olf funky hotels downtown. I know they re-opened the old Biltmore but am not sure if that's just condos and anyway they're on the wrong side of the interstate.

 Peaches I was just kidding with them. Of course they would have bathrooms.
I know my husband and I stayed at the Westin one night. But, it was a package deal which included dinner for two at the SunDial.
I agree with Peaches a lot of the hotels near by are probably booked up.

In looking for lodging, we discovered and then remembered that there is a very large gift show in town at the same time. We have a reservation at the Super 8 for now. Can anyone comment on it. We don't care if it's fancy, just clean and safe. It sounds like it's quite close so that's a plus.
We also noticed that most of the plane fares have stableized at a higher level. I'm guessing that's due to the gift show as well.
Just a word of caution about transportation. MARTA does not extend to the Gwinnett Arena, so you will have to rely on buses, which can take as long a 90 minutes.
In addition, buses don't run on Sunday in Gwinnett Co.

A.H. Black I know what store you are talking about. Most of the hotels in the area are booked up. Go to www.daysinn.com Someone from MKF just reserved a room that is about a block and a half from Philips Arena.
There is some kind of Home Show in town at the same time as Nationals. Which explains why they moved the Junior Events. I am sure they will be using the Georgia World Congress Center for the Home Show.

Will criminal background checks be required to reserve a room? I'm thinking that an ex-con could do a lot more damage in a hotel than in a lousy bus. Plus, the range of possible crimes is so much greater.

Robin,
as far as I know they won't do a criminal check for you to reserve a hotel room.
