Hello everyone.

I have started an online petition which will be sent to CBC on October 6th, 2 weeks from tomorrow. The statement requests that the CBC network provide TV coverage of the international figure skating events this season. Presently CTV is covering only the National events. This means that unless CBC is willing to pick up the International package, we will be depending on the American networks this season to provide our coverage. I e-mailed CBC and they said that a final decision has not been made, so I am taking this as an opportunity for skating fans to voice our desire that CBC cover these events.

If you agree with the statement on the petition, please sign. I also ask that you forward this info. to your figure skating friends and contacts. I think we can get thousands of signatures on this petition. Let's let CBC know how many fans are wanting this coverage!! Thank you very much.

Editing to say that the link for the CTV petition is at the end of this thread.

Kathy,

read some of the other posts about this situation. You will find out that CBC did put in a bid but that the ISU rejected it. Many other countries are in the same boat. The petition should be to the ISU not CBC

I signed it, but I'm not sure how much of a difference it'll make considering it's a lack of $$$ (something the CBC doesn't have a whole lot of to spare in the first place), not a lack of interest, causing CBC (or any other Canadian network) not to broadcast Worlds this year.

I agree a petition to the ISU would probably be a better idea (and more people from different countries without Worlds coverage right now would probably sign one, not just Canadians). Even though I'm not sure how much more effective a petition to the ISU would be (considering their recent track record of stupid decisions regarding this sport), I'd sign that one, too, if somebody would start one...you never know. :)

Well, it's worth a try. If anyone else wants to organize a different petition go ahead. Yes, I was aware of the bid by CBC, but to be honest we don't know the details. We are assuming it was the ISU's fault, but really we don't know that. We don't know what the CBC's offer was. I think that a petition might help encourage CBC to continue to negotiate with the ISU. Let's not give up now or say it won't do any good. One never knows and it's worth a try IMHO. Anyway, please sign. Thanks.

Hello. I've had feedback that I should also have a petition sent to CTV asking them to reconsider. So, I've made one to send to them as well. Would those who have nicely posted the link on their webpages mind including this one as well? Thanks. I also would like to send one to the ISU. Does anyone have any idea where to send it?

Okay, here's the LINK and please spread the word.

The closing date for this petition is also October 6th. It will be sent to CTV on that date. We have 150 signatures on the other petition so far. GREAT, and let's keep it going!

I'm more than willing to make one to the ISU as well. I just have to figure out where to send it. Thanks to everyone who has signed.

Thanks for the ISU info. The only problem is, I need an e-mail address in order to make an online petition. Does anyone know of a contact e-mail address? Oh, and thanks to everyone who has signed this and also bumped the topic to keep it going! :)
