Tonite I went to day 1 of the St. Clair Shores Autumn Classic competition. (I will be going tomorrow as well). Aside from being free, the skaters were great and I saw some surprise skaters that delighted me :)

Marcy Hinzmann and Aaron Parchem did their new LP as an exhibition. It was the first time I had saw them skate. WOW what a striking pair. They had a few technical errors, but I was mesmerized by their program. I have no idea what music it was to. I think it might be a soundtrack. (Has anyone else seen their LP or knows the music?) Anyway, I love the choreography. It is very dramatic and suits them very well. I really think this pair has major potential.

Also, I saw Stephanie Kalesavich in the stands about 2 feet away from me cheering them on. (I was a huge fan of K & P but couldn't get the nerve to talk to Steph :))

In the senior ladies, Shizuka Awakara was there! I have always liked her and was surprised when they announced her name. SHE IS EXQISITE! She has some two foots but her artistry is amazing in person. I noticed she was there with Richard Callaghan (I think). Does anyone know if she was training with him this summer?

Also, I was very impressed by last year's National pewter medalist in junior ladies, Alexandra Patterson. I remember her from before, and she has really improved her artistry. She landed all her jumps as well.

Amber Czisny was there, and while didn't land her jumps clean, BOY CAN THAT GIRL SPIN! I love watching her!

Something I noticed with the junior ladies, I guess it is a requirement now to do this "flying" sit spin thing (I don't know the proper term for it). There were only a handful of junior ladies that had this! So many fell completely out of their spins at the beginning because of the "flying" thing. It was wierd to see.

So, just wanted to share with you my skating excitement :) Hopefully tomorrow will be just as fun!

I believe that she is with Callaghan full time now, actually.

Thanks, JessicaLynn. Do you happen to have any results from Friday? Please jot down a few results on Saturday if you can! :)

FYI, the flying sit spin is the required flying spin in the short program for the Juniors this year (both in the U.S. and internationally). And, yes, many skaters (male and female) tend to have trouble with the "fly" part of it! ;)

William Brewster of the Detroit Skating Club won the freeskate. He landed a huge triple lutz, a triple saw, a triple toe(hand down) a double axel and many other double jumps, some of witch i think wre meant to be triples.
Jonathon Cassar also from Detroit, won the silver with a pretty solid performance landing a triple loop and triple saw along with a double axel and many other double jumps. He only fell on his 2nd double axel.
Frank Huber of Plymoth Skating Club won the bronze with a steady performance. He had a few unsure landings but landed everything clean including double axels.
Daniel Schmitz from the Detroit Skating Club won the pewter wiht a very impressive performance. He stepped out of triple saw, landed 2 huge double axels and many other double jumps. Very nice strait line foot work and russian split!

Wow! This sounds like a good event. Were the novice ladies as good as the men?
