*{peeking around the corner...is it safe to come out of lurkdom?...oookay, slowly taking the plunge...}*
Okay, my mom and I made the entertaining trek yesterday to Fargo, and I thought, since no one else had that I could see, I would post a few of my thoughts about the show.
First of all, let me just say the I'd never been to a COI show before, only Stars, so I had no idea what to expect. I was amazed at how small the ice surface was, and spent most of the time before the show started wondering how on earth any of the skaters could get up enough speed to jump on that! Is the ice always really small, or was it just for this venue, or what?? (or was I just too high up ;))
Anyways, the light thingy at the beginning with the music from the olympics and the rings and flags and everything was really neat! I know that has nothing to do with skating...In the first half, the only people I really can remember were Lang & Tcherneshev (who were AWESOME! I'd never seen them other than 4cc one year that CTV actually showed them...), Brasseur & Eisler, and a lot of people either cross dressing, lap dancing, break dancing, etc etc. That dog of Victor Petrenko's just almost killed me ;) I sat there thinking to myself "I came here just to see an Olympic champion fall out of a double axel with a stuffed puppet!?!"
Anyways, the second half I remember a lot more of, I'm not sure why :)
Bourne & Kraatz -- I LOVE this program!! I'm a big fan to begin with, etc, but this is just the neatest program to watch! I could gush for hours, but I'll save it for later :) Elvis was, well, Elvis, more in-the-crowd skating, same leather pants he's worn since 1993, but pretty entertaining, just in himself. (I know I'm skipping a lot of people, and I'll probably remember so much more the second I post this, sorry!) Plushy looked like he was working his @ss off selling his Carmen program and landed a perfect triple axel-triple toe...only to do a "toepick" and fall right into the lights around the edge of the ice! :( I felt so awful for him! I know too well how much that hurts, and not only the knee he fell on!
Anisinna & Peizerat's OD was just as amazing as the original program was -- the additions really made it even better, I think. And Gwendal shows off so much, it's really fun to watch!
Alexei, well, that was just amazing! Another program/skater that I could just gush about for the rest of the day! His straightline footwork was coming right towards us down the ice, and even though we were up in row 8000, the look on his face was just priceless! total joy, it looked like! He got a lot of screams, but I'm not sure how much of it was really just a warm up for MK, who was standing on the ice waiting for him to finish. Being "America's Own" as they announced her, she obviously got the hugest applause, FOG was really great, she doubled on lutz, though, the only tiny mistake. It was totally silent in the crowd, seriously! When she was bowing, though, it was like fireworks going off, the number of flashes was amazing! No standing O, though, I don't think the Fargo-ites were really that spirited :) it was 4:00 in the afternoon and, like, 32 degrees outside...:)
The closing number, I have to admit, I didn't quite "get"...I mean, only 1/4 of the cast is even American! but, oh well, I'm not the choreographer or anything, and it was a great show over all! The fireworks, I think would've really given me a heart attack if I hadn't been warned beforehand by reading everyone else's reveiws, but they were really majestic, I guess is the word? And a fitting close to an awesome show!
And those were my extremely edited comments -- this was so long to begin with, I think you're all very lucky I decided to go back and proofread! :D
