Does anyone have the event schedule for this competition? I know the dates but I am not sure of which events are which days and what the times are. Trying to arrange my work schedule.

The event schedule usually goes up on the SC of NY site the week before the competition (if not sooner):
http://www.thescny.org

Edited to say that the event schedule and list of skaters are now available at the above link.

Don't they usually have the schedule up by now?? Anyone have any idea of who might be competing this year?

Am I the only one who doesn't see this info on the SCONY site???

I think I need to take my anti-retard pills

The file is in .pdf format. It goes straight into the site this time as opposed to their usual 2 pages before you get anywhere ;) Is it me or is this the first time they do this?

Time for the annual Mid-Atlantic competition by Skating Club of New York (SCNY) again, was there today just in the evening and watched Junior Ladies short programs.

Emily Hughes (younger sister to Sarah Hughes) was supposed to skate, she won the Jr. Lads competition last year, but when I got there, her name was not even on the start order, so she must have scratched.

Junior Ladies Short Program

By skate order (final placement in SP in brackets). In brackets are spin revolutions (I try but it might not always be right), spiral variations/positions, and jump modifies/notes. Footwork(ftwk)/spiral(spi) patterns are / or | for straight line, O for circular, S for serpentine. The required flying jump in the short program for Junior Ladies is a flying sit(fsit).

Alexsandra Denham (8) - layback(11), O spi(3), 3-sal(cheat)/2-toe(turnout), fsit(botched landing), split to 2-flip, / ftwk, back spiral into 2-axel(fall), camel/sit/layback\backsit\upright catchfoot. She might have placed a spot or two higher if she wasn't first to skate.

Leah Agler (3) - flying sit(11, and the best flying sit overall in this group), 3-sal(teeny cheat)/2-toe, O spi(3), 2-axel(stepout), 0 ftwk, layback+catchfoot(8), 2-flip, camel/sit/layback/Bielmann\backsit\Y. Really nice program overall.

Ashley DeMarco (9) - 2-toe/2-loop(both jump landings not clean), 2-axel(cheat+2foot), layback(7), 2-flip, fsit(7), | ftwk, O spi(3), camel/sit\backcamel\backsit\pancake\scratch.

Jenn Dunckley (13) - 2-flip, 2-axel(fall), camel/sit/layback\backcamel\backsit\upright catchfoot, O spi(3), 2-lutz/2-toe(fall), S ftwk, fsit(5), layback(6).

Kristie Houser (11) - S spi(4), layback(10), 2-axel(fall), 2-flip, fsit(8), O ftwk, 2-lutz-2-toe, camel/layback\backsit\Y. Some leg wrap on her jumps.

Jennifer Ann Russo (14) - layback(7), 2-flip, 2-axel(with a whole rotation on the ice so its really a single), fsit, S spi(4), 2-lutz/2-toe, camel/layback\backsit(probably short of revs), and I didn't notice any particular ftwk section?

Kristina Moore (1) - 3-lutz(she fell, she didn't look too hot on the lutz in the warmup either, but I know she's done 3-lutz/2-toe earlier this summer), 3-flip(big), camel/sit/halfsit\backcamel\donut\layback+catchfoot, | ftwk, 2-axel(big), fsit(8), S spi(4), layback(13). They had open judging, so we saw the scores, even some low 5.x in presentation, and high 4.x for tech... I guess the jumps count a ton, plus no one else here was like even thinking of a 3-flip, or a 3-lutz. Still she has some work to improve on the overall packaging and presentation of the program - I much prefer Jenny Erica and Leah Agler's programs, but you can't argue with the tech here.

Jennifer Pelletier (15) - 2-lutz/1-loop, | ftwk, 2-flip, fsit(did not fly), S spi(4), 2-axel(fallout), bauer, sit/layback\backsit\scratch.

Nikki Gallo (12) - 2-axel(handdown, wrong foot), layback(8), 2-sal/2-loop, S spi(4), 2-flip(fall), camel/sit/layback\backcamel+catchfoot, | ftwk, fsit(8).

Krystle Wertz (5) - 3-sal(fallout, almost had it)/2-toe, 2-flip, fsit(7), S spi(4), 2-axel(slightly turning out), O ftwk, camel/layback\backsit\scratch, layback(8). Nice presentation, posture, skating. She had on a deep red maroon/wine colored dress that I thought was really pretty.

Vanessa Koo (6) - 3-sal(cheat)/2-toe(cheat), 2-axel(cheat), fsit(not much fly), S spi(4), layback(9), O ftwk, 2-flip, camel/sit\backsit. She does have nice expression.

Jennifer Milton (4) - 2-axel, 3-sal(cheat)/2-toe, O ftwk, layback(8), S spi(4), fsit(8), S spi(3), split to 2-flip, camel/sit/layback\backsit\Y\scratch. She can do the jumps but not very big, and she looks younger so the quality of skating isn't as good as some the others.

Amy Goldstein (7) - layback(8), O ftwk, 2-axel, 3-toe(fall), fsit(8), 2-flip(2foot), S spi(3), camel/layback+catchfoot\backsit.

Michelle Wiggett (10) - layback(4), 2-sal(fall), S spi(3), 2-flip, O ftwk, fsit, 2-axel(fall), camel/sit/layback\backcamel\backsit\crossfoot.

Jenny Erica (2) - layback(10), 3-sal/2-toe, 2-axel, fsit(free foot touched down on ice so its a deduction), S spi(3), 2-flip, | ftwk, camel/sit/layback+catchfoot\backsit\Y. Really nice presentation and the overall best skated program of the night to me, it was all there just about, but just didn't have the tech difficulty to win.

Its going to be an interesting year for Junior Ladies - obviously very few have or will try the 3-flip, and those that have it are likely the ones to have a shot to make Nationals. The flying sit I didn't note down all the bad ones but in general, very few ladies skaters do really great flying sits, and most can't do a very good one.

More reports as I go for other events in the next few days.

Btw - all-events pass for 4 days is $10 not $15 as reported.

Senior Ladies SP

Nicole Adamoyourka (12) 3.5/4.2 - S spi(3), 3-sal(cheat), deathdrop\backsit(8), 3-toe(cheat)/2-loop(cheat), camel+catchfoot\backcamel\backsit\crossfoot, O ftwk, 2-axel, layback(7).

Susannah Hall (9) 3.7/4.5 - 3-sal(fall), 2-axel, layback(14), S spi(3), 2-flip, fcamel(8)+catchfoot(2), O ftwk, camel/sit/Y\backcamel\halfsit\scratch.

Holly Bugbee (10) 3.6/4.5 - layback(8), 2.5-sal/2-loop, fcamel(8), S spi(4), O ftwk, 3-toe(cheat), 2-axel, camel/layback/sit\backcamel\backsit\crossfoot.

Darya Zuravicky (7) 4.1/4.8 - 3-flutz/2-toe(touchdown), 3-flip(fall), fcamel(8), O ftwk, 1-axel, S spi(3), layback(12), camel/sit/layback\backcamel+catchfoot.

Katherine Hadford (3) 4.1/5.0 - 3-flutz(sat), 3-flip, layback(11), inside-outside-inside (or OIO?) spreadeagles into 2-axel(sat), | ftwk, S spi(4), fsit(8), camel/sit/layback/Bielmann\backcamel\donut\layback+catchfoot. She almost had both those jumps, just didn't hold on to the landings.

Alexandra Tregre (1 tie) 4.5/5.1 - layback(8), S spi(4), 3-toe, 3-loop(fallout)/2-toe, sit(flying/deathdrop?), | ftwk, 2-axel(had a hand pointing down, but didn't touch ice), camel/sit/layback\backsit\Y\scratch.

Elizabeth Siematkowski (13) 2.6/3.7 - 3-loop(fall), layback(10), 2-sal(fall), fcamel(8), | ftwk, 2-axel(fallout), O spi(4), camel/layback\backsit\upright.

Laura Lemoine (15) 2.2/3.6 - layback(11), 2-axel(fall), 1-sal(wrong foot landing), fcamel(7), S spi(3), 1-flip(stepout), camel/layback\backsit\crossfoot, O ftwk.

Monica Marks (17) 2.0/3.4 - layback(8), S spi(4), 1-axel, 3-toe(cheat), 1-sal, camel/sit/backcamel\backsit, | ftwk, fcamel(4)illusion(2).

Lindsay Watalis (14) 2.5/3.8 - 2-axel(fall), fcamel(8), 3-sal(cheat), camel/sit/layback\backcamel\backsit\crossfoot, O spi(3), 2.5-toe(fallout), | ftwk, layback(17).

Chloe Katz (4) 4.1/4.9 - 2-axel(beauty), 1-toe, layback(9), S spi(3), camel/sit/layback\backsit, 3-sal(fall), O ftwk, fsit(10). I thought she might have been slightly overmarked given jump content, but I guess looking at the scores now, they took deductions off on the tech and the 2-axel was just gorgeous, rest of program aside for the missed jumps was fine too.

Trina Robinson (6) 4.2/4.6 - 2-axel(turnout), 3-loop(2-foot)/2-toe, layback(9), 3-toe(2-foot), O ftwk(pattern looked incomplete), fcamel, S spi(3), camel/layback\backsit.

Jenna Adams (11) 3.5/4.4 - camel/sit/layback\backcamel\crossfoot, 2-axel, 1-toe-2-toe, fcamel(9), O spi(3), 3-flutz(fall - not sure if I'm reading my notes right), | ftwk, layback(13).

Stephanie Roth (5) 4.1/4.7 - 3-toe/2-toe(best darn combo of the whole group, drew some nice and ahhs), S spi(3), 1-axel, layback(8), 2-lutz(fall), fcamel(8), O ftwk, camel/layback\backcamel\backsit\crossfoot.

Dawn Cassell (16) 2.4/3.6 - layback(6), 2-lutz/2-loop, | ftwk, 2-flip, fcamel(4), 2-axel(stepout), S spi(4), camel/layback\backsit.

Tiffany St. Bernard (1 tie) 4.4/5.2 - 2-axel(fallout), 3-lutz-2-toe, 3-toe, fcamel(8), S spi(3), layback(5), | ftwk, camel/sit/layback\backsit\scratch. I thought it was best performance of the group.

Kristen Sheaffer (8) 3.8/4.6 - 3-flip(fall), 3-toe, O spi(3), layback(14), axel(pop into an overroated waltz jump), S ftwk, fsit(8), camel/sit/layback\backsit\leg over head position\halfsit.

Senior Ladies FS

Laura Lemoine (16) 2.7/3.2 - 2-axel(fall), layback(10), S spi(3), 1-loop, 2-lutz(fall), 1-sal, camel/layback\backsit, 2-toe, camel, 2-flip, bauer, 1-axel(fall), fcamel(5).

Dawn Cassell (15) 3.3/3.3 - 2-axel(fall), 2-flip-2-toe, 3-sal(fall), fcamel(6), 2-flip(fall), layback(7), S spi(4), 2-loop, 2-axel(cheat), camel, 2-lutz, | ftwk, 2-flip, camel/layback\backsit\scratch.

Lindsay Watalis (14) 3.1/3.4 - 2-axel(fallout,cheat), S ftwk, 2-loop, 2.5-sal(fall), fcamel(8), 2-flip(fall), sitspin, 1-lutz, O spi(3), camel/sit/layback\backsit, 2-axel(cheat)/0.5-loop-2-toe, 2-flip, 2-toe, layback(18).

Elizabeth Siematkowski (13) 3.4/3.6 - 2-lutz(stepout), 2-axel(fall), fcamel(8)/illusion(1), 2-loop, 2-lutz, 2-sal(handdown), layback(7), S spi(3), split, 2-toe, camel/layback\backsit, 2-axel(fall), | ftwk, camel/sit/layback\backcamel\backsit\scratch.

Holly Bugbee (8) 4.1/4.4 - 2-axel, fcamel/sit, 3-toe(2-foot), camel/sit/Y\backcamel\backsit, 2-sal, 2-loop, layback, / ftwk, 2-sal, bauer to 2-flip, 2-lutz/2-loop, camel\backsit\scratch, 3-flip(2-foot), O spi(3), 2-axel-2-toe, 2 Russians. She stood up on the jumps, program had energy - it all helps, looks like a good skate for her.

Susannah Hall (9) 3.8/4.0 - 2-axel, 3-sal(fall), 2-loop/2-loop, fcamel(8), 2-flip, 2-sal/2-toe, layback(11), 2-lutz(fall), camel/illusion, | ftwk, 2-axel(handdown), Charlottle O spi(2), camel/layback\backsit\halfsit\scratch.

Darya Zuravicky (4 - 5 overall) 4.7/4.8 - 3-loop, 2-lutz, 1-flip, fcamel(7), camel+catchfoot, 3-toe-2-toe, 3-sal(handdown), O spi(2), layback, 3-toe, 2-axel, O ftwk, camel/layback\backsit\Y.

Jenna Adams (10 - 11 overall) 3.8/3.9 - 2-axel, fcamel(7), 2-sal, 3-toe(fall), camel/illusion, layback(6), 2-lutz/2-toe/2-loop, S spi(3), 2-axel(fall), camel/layback\backsit, | ftwk, 1-axel/0.5-loop-2-flip, 1-axel, 2-lutz, 2-flip.

Nicole Adamoyourka (11 - 12 overall) 3.7/3.7 - walley to 2-axel, 3-toe(cheat), fcamel/sit, 2.5-sal, 2-lutz, layback(6), S spi(3), 2-loop/2-loop, camel+catchfoot/crossfoot, 2-axel/2-loop, camel/sit/Y.

Kristen Sheafer (6 - 7 overall) 4.7/4.8 - 2-axel, 3-flip(fall), 2-lutz/2-loop, sit(I believe it was flying, not deathdrop), S spi, 3-toe/2-toe, layback(6), 3-sal, bauer, 2-toe, 2-axel/2-toe, O ftwk, camel/sit\upright, camel/sit/leg over head. Interesting chereography - not just "another" skating program.

Trina Robinson (12 - 10 overall) 3.4/3.7 - 2-axel(fall), 3-toe(2-foot), 2-lutz, 2.5-loop, layback(9), / ftwk, camel/layback\backsit, S spi(2), 2-axel(fall), 2.5-sal(stepout), camel/upright, 2-flip, 2-toe/2-toe, fcamel(7).

Tiffany St. Bernard (1) 5.3/5.4 - 2-axel, 3-lutz(2-foot)/2-toe, 3-flip(2-foot), fcamel(6), 3-toe, 3-sal, deathdrop/backsit, O spi(3, she needs to work on improving her spirals), 2-sal/2-toe, layback(6), O ftwk, 2-axel(stepout), camel/sit\backsit\scratch. The 2-foots were on triples with nice height and fully rotated, not cheated jumps.

Katherine Hadford (7 - 6 overall) 4.3/4.6 - illuzion, 2-lutz(overrotated was to be a triple), 3-toe(fall), layback(10), 3-flip(stepout), sit/backsit(interesting positions), bauer, / ftwk, 3-lutz(fall), 2-axel, stars-hop-sit, O spi(4), 3-toe/3-toe(cheat), camel/sit/layback/Bielmann\backBielmann(nice). I have to note the circular spiral sequence is particularly atrocious - it forms the pattern of a diamond square - which means its being done on flats. She's a tiny thing though - harder to get the power and dig deep into the edges. I saw much better from Cranberry Open from her.

Stephanie Roth (3) 4.9/4.8 - 3-toe/2-toe(nice), 3-sal(handdown), fcamel, 1-flip, stars-hop-sit, 2-axel/2-toe, 3-sal/2-toe, layback(7), 3-toe(handdown), | ftwk, S spi(3), 2-axel, camel/layback\backcamel\backsit\scratch. Really strong performance like she had here last year, good for her - she looked really pleased.

Chloe Katz (5 - 4 oveall) 4.7/4.8 - 2-axel(nice)/2-toe, 3-toe, fcamel(4)/illusion(2), 2-flip, 2-loop, 3-sal, layback(9), 2-lutz, O ftwk, fsit(9), 2-toe(fallout), S spi(3), camel/sit/layback\backsit\scratch. I really like her 2-axel - steps right up.

Alexandra Tregre (2) 5.1/5.2 - 2-axel, 3-toe/2-toe, 3-loop, deathdrop/backsit(6), 2-lutz, S ftwk, S spi(2), camel/sit/layback\backsit, 2-sal, layback(6), 2-axel/2-toe, 3-toe, 2-flip(stepout), fcamel/sit. This program just doesn't work for me - its flat/boring?

I made the trip into the city this weekend to take in some of the events at the Middle Atlantics competition. The rink at Chelsea Piers is really neat as it sits right over the water (about 40 feet up). In fact, during one skater’s performance, a ship’s horn blared so loud it drowned out the music! :o

Junior Men

1. Tommy STEENBERG skated a very clean short program with a great 3 flutz-2 toe, and 3 flip to start. He did a low double axel, but completed it along with wonderful spins and nice footwork. His program was deduction free and very enjoyable to watch!

2. David WEINTRAUB opened with a 3 flutz-2 toe, but turned out of the 2 toe. He then fell out of his 3 flip jump (but I’m not sure if he put his hands down). He completed the 2 axel, did a nice camel-camel and reverse flying sit, but bobbled on the combination spin. His skating is generally strong, but tonight he just didn’t look over his feet.

3. Nathan EVANCHO opened with a great 3 flip out of steps, but proceeded to fall on his 3 flutz- 2 toe (interesting that all 3 men turned to the inside edge on their lutz attemps). Completed the double axel, however he was short on both halves of the camel-camel and he had trouble with the flying sit. I think in order for Nathan to make it back to nationals this year he’s going to really have to work on the spins as he got deductions on all 3.

4. Justin CHILDERS did a nice 3 toe-2 toe and a 2 flip to start his tango themed program. His camel-camel was well positioned, but short of the required 6 rotations on the back half. He fell on his double axel near the end, and he too struggled with the flying sit spin.

5. Matthew BLUMENFELD opened with a big 3 toe-2 toe and turned out of the 2 toe. He did a good 2 flip from steps and a nice 2 axel. He also messed up the flying sit spin, but his camel-camel was nice. His final combination spin was well done, however the referee blew the whistle about half way through it, meaning he got a time deduction.

Senior Men

1. Johnny WEIR skated his new short program with great success. He opened with a beautiful 3 lutz-3 toe combination and did a nice 3 flip. His only error was a turnout of his 3 axel. The Tarosova inspired footwork was well done and his spins were excellent as usual.

2. Mauro BRUNI started off his program with a nice 3 lutz-2toe, however he fell on his 3 flip. He completed a 2 axel and the required spins very nicely. He skates very well to the music, I think he just needs a little more power and confidence on the jumps.

3. Rohene WARD began with an enormous 3 axel that was on the best ones I’ve ever seen anyone do. I think his 3 axel may be one of the best in the country (if not the world!). He fell on his 4 toe and later popped the lutz into a single. He seemed disappointed with his efforts, but just the 3 axel alone made tonight a success. I think he needs to just get his head together and fight for each jump and he’ll be fine. He’s obviously got the talent.

4. Rusty FEIN opened with a 3 flip- 2.5 toe that landed on two feet forward. He did his double axel along with some very unique footwork sequences. His performance was marred only by a fall on the 3 lutz. I really appreciated the choreography and intricacies of this program.

5. Richard REYOR did a good 3 flip-2toe but doubled the lutz out of steps and I believe he singled the 2 axel as well. I thought his posture and spin positions were very well defined.

Senior Ladies

This was a very looong event, drawn out even more by open judging. I didn’t take detailed notes, but here are a few of my observations of the highlights.

1. Tiffany ST. BENARD was the clear winner of the free skate opening with a 2 axel, a 3 lutz-2toe and a 3 flip (both looked slightly 2 footed). She went on to complete a 3 toe and a 3 sal. She stepped out of her last 2 axel, but it was a minor error in an otherwise excellent performance.

2. Alexandra TREGRE looked gorgeous and started out very strong with a 2 axel, 3 toe-2toe, and 3 loop. She did a 2 flutz, a 2 sal (intended triple), another 2 axel, and fell out of a 2 flip. I think she’s going to need 2 more triples to make it to nationals, but her skating is just so beautiful that I enjoyed watching it even without them.

3. Stephanie ROTH skated better than I’ve seen her skate in a while with a huge 3 toe-2 toe, 3 sal, two 2 axels, and a 3 sal- 2toe. She touched down on a second 3 toe and popped a flip attempt. With out any form of a loop or a lutz jump in her program, I feel she lacks the variety of technique that the judges are looking for in a long program. Still, the jumps she did were big and powerful, and the rest of her skating is really strong.

I’m not sure of the placements for 4th – 8th place, but here is how I think they panned out based on the marks…

4. Darya ZURAVICKY skated to Ariane and opened with a perfect 3 loop. She doubled her lutz, and popped her flip attempts, however she managed two 3 toes, a nice 2 axel and touched down on a 3 sal. I thought her program had great energy and speed throughout, she just needs to hit the difficult jumps and she’ll be right up there.

5. Kristen SHEAFER fell on her opening 3 flip, but completed two 2 axels, a 3 toe-2toe, and a 3 sal. She performed well to the music and was pleasing to watch.

6. Chloe KATZ did a great 2 axel-2 toe, a 3 toe, and I think a 3 sal. She also did a number of double jumps very well and overall had a well balanced program.

7. Holly BUGBEE skated an energetic performance with two very nice 2 axels and numerous other double jumps. She also stood up on a two-footed 3 toe in the beginning, and a two-footed (and under-rotated) 3 flip jump at the end of her program.

8. Katherine HADFORD continued her unpredictable season by skating a terrible long program. Popped the opening 3 loop, did a 2 flutz that landed forward on 2 feet, fell on a 3 toe, fell on a 3 flip, did a very small 2 axel, missed a 3 sal and stood up on a “3” toe- “3” toe that was badly cheated. It really is a shame for her to skate this way because after Cranberry Open she showed that she is capable of skating well and standing up on multiple triples. Her triples on practice and in the warm up, when done well, are only about ¼ turn short, but when she’s off, they are more like ½ turn cheated. Even though her power is lacking for a senior lady, she can still compete with them if she lands her triple jumps (many of them), and does her excellent spins.

A skater who I’m not familiar with is Trina ROBINSON. She appears to be an adult skater, who is competing in senior ladies. I don’t know how old she is, but my guess is she’s 15-20 years older than most of her competitors, but looks great for her age. I was so routing for her in the long program, and I really wish I could have seen her short program where she placed 6th. She didn’t have her best skate in the long program, but I applaud her for just competing with these girls. She can do a nice double axel and some very valid triple attempts! If anyone knows what her story is I would be so glad if you posted it. I think everyone would find it interesting!

That’s all from Middle Atlantics 2003! It was great to see these young (and older!) skaters one last time before regionals and see all the progress they’ve made over the year. It sets up an exciting fall season! :)

Junior Mens Short Program:

1. Tommy Steenberg (blue shirt, black pants) – “Masquerade Waltz” – 3lutz/2toe, 3flip, 2axel. Tommy had the only clean SP in the Junior Mens event. He had good flair and expression, nice footwork sequences, and good speed over the ice. It was a strong performance and well deserved to be in 1st place.

2. David Weintraub (black shirt and pants) – “Played-A-Live” – 3lutz/2toe (turn-out), 3flip (step-out), 2axel. He had the triple jumps, just couldn’t control the landings. He had the best spins of the Junior men, including a really nice camel/change/camel. His style was nice and the music got the crowd going.

3. Nathan Evancho (black and red shirt, black pants) – rock music – Great footwork into 3flip, 3lutz (fall), 2axel. I was impressed with his speed and ice coverage. His spins weren’t particularly great and needed some work.

4. Justin Childers (red shirt, black pants) – violin tango – 3toe/2toe, 2flip, 2axel (fall). He didn’t have the difficult that the other men had, and doubling the flip and falling on the axel didn’t help him. His program wasn’t very exciting. His spins were pretty weak, particularly the flying sit spin, which he had trouble controlling as he came down.

5. Matthew Blumenfeld (black shirt with pink, black pants) – “The Pink Panther” – 3toe/2toe (over-rotated and turned out), 2flip, 2axel. He also had very low difficulty in this program. He struggled with the 3toe in the warm-up, but managed to land it in the Short even though the 2toe after it was wild. He also had a weak flying sit spin, but his footwork was decent with some expression.

Senior Mens Short Program:

1. Johnny Weir (black and white tuxedo-like shirt w/red flower, black pants) – “Sad Waltz” – 3lutz/3toe (excellent), 3axel (turn-out), 3flip. This was by far the best program in the Senior mens event, and I enjoyed it. The program displayed how much Tatiana has helped Johnny’s skating. His jumps were strong. He had the 3axel, but couldn’t control the landing and spun out of it. All of his spins were outstanding, including the combination spin at the end. His footwork sequences, however, were a tremendous improvement from previous years. They involve more toe-work, speed, and difficulty. He also showed the most expression and emotion throughout the program than I’ve ever seen. I was impressed.

2. Mauro Bruni (red shirt, black pants) – Spanish music – 2axel, 3lutz (fall), 3flip (squeaky). He struggled with the jumps a bit. His other elements were average. The footwork sequences were slow, and his combination spin was okay. His sit/change/sit was good though, along with his flying sit spin.

3. Rohene Ward (black and silver shirt, black pants) – guitar/Spanish music – 3axel (huge), 4toe (fall), 1lutz. The crowd was really into his performance right from the beginning. He opened with a gigantic 3axel, but from that point on he fell apart. He went for the 4toe, which I admired, but he was a little bit short of rotation and fell. He had an excellent sit/change/sit spin and good footwork sequences. Then he popped his lutz, and in his final combination spin, he fell on the back half of the spin, and it was a very disruptive finish to his program. He couldn’t do the spin over, so he just stood there and waited for the music to finish. He had good speed, flair, and energy in the program, but reminded me of Sasha Cohen in a way. Started off the program strong, but then made mistakes and got a little too excited and energetic in the program. This was my first time seeing him skate though. He has a lot of potential.

4. Rusty Fein (Indian-type outfit, all in brown) – Indian music? – 3flip/3toe (landed on two feet), 2axel, 3lutz (fall). He couldn’t quite get all the rotations on the 3toe in his jump combination. I was really impressed with his edges and choreography when his program began. His edges were very smooth and he did some nice spread eagles and other moves in the field in the opening. He had a very poor flying camel and combination spin, but his sit/change/sit was good.

5. Richard Reyor (dark brown shirt, black pants) – classical and Spanish music – 3flip (turnout)/2toe, 2loop, 1axel. Unfortunate that he missed all of his jumps. His other elements were good, however. He had an impressive deathdrop/back sit spin and camel/change/camel spin, although it could have been much faster.

Senior Ladies Free Skate:

1. Tiffany St. Bernard (light blue dress) – “Masquerade Waltz” – 2axel (big), 3lutz (two-footed)/2toe, 3flip (two-footed), 3toe, 3sal, 2sal/2toe, 2axel (step-out). Talk about someone with a lot of talent. She has all of the triple jumps, except she didn’t try the loop here. Her jumps are big, and even though she two-footed the lutz and flip, they both had nice height and were not cheated or anything. Her coach Galina was upset after Tiffany did the 3toe, I think because in the warm-up she was working on 3toe/3toe, and instead of going for the combination Tiffany just did a 3toe. Galina was stomping her foot when she saw that. Tiffany’s skating was powerful, but not particularly graceful. She had decent spirals and spins. Definitely a skater to watch for in the future. [4.9 – 5.4, 5.0 – 5.5]

2. Alexandra Seung Tregre (light blue dress) – “At The Ball” – 2axel (smooth), 3toe/2toe, 3loop (small cheat), 2lutz, 2sal, 2axel/2toe, 2toe, 2flip (step-out). A very good performance for her. She had a great deathdrop/back sit spin, lovely spirals, nice style/presentation, and a great smile. I enjoyed watching her. [4.5 – 5.2, 4.9 – 5.4]

3. Stephanie Roth (yellow/orange/red dress) – “Firebird” – 3toe/2toe, 3sal (hand down), 1flip, 2axel/2toe, 3sal/2toe, 3toe (hand down), 2axel. This was a very solid performance, one of the best of the night. She got a great ovation from the crowd. She was extremely happy with her performance. She didn’t make any major mistakes, they were small ones. She had a nice flying camel spin which switched to an inside edge. The stretch in her spirals was good, and she didn’t let up at all during her performance. I certainly enjoyed it. [4.7 – 5.3, 4.6 – 5.1]

4. Chloe Katz (black dress) – “Les Miserables” – 2axel/2toe, 3toe, 2flip, 2loop, 3sal, 2lutz, 2toe (fall out). She certainly didn’t have any major mistakes, but it was just enough to keep her from making the Top 3. She had good speed and a very nice circular footwork section. [4.3 – 4.7, 4.5 – 5.2]

5. Darya Zuravicky (lavender dress) – “Ariane” – 3loop (a beauty), 2lutz, 1flip, 3toe (step-out)/2toe, 3sal (hand down), 3toe, 2axel. When the music started playing I knew I recognized it, took me about 10-15 seconds to realize that it was “Ariane”. She actually used the exact same music selections as in Michelle’s LP from ’99, with the exception of the “Tango from Sakat.” I admit I wasn’t thrilled after hearing the music at the beginning, but she went into a loop jump at the beginning and after landing the triple beautifully it really got my attention. She’s an athletic skater. She had a nice layback spin and good speed and ice coverage throughout the program. She had some problems after the 3loop, but finished strong with a good 3toe and 2axel to finish the program. [4.4 – 4.9, 4.4 – 5.1]

6. Katherine Hadford (pink dress) – violin music – 1loop, 2lutz (landed on two feet), 3toe (fall), 3flip (step out), 3lutz (fall), 2axel, 3toe/2toe. She went for all the jumps, and finally managed to pull off a 2axel and 3toe combo at the end. She had an awesome layback into a catchfoot layback. Her footwork was very nice, and she had great spins overall including a double-biellman! [3.3 – 4.6, 4.2 – 5.0]

7. Kristen Sheaffer (black dress) – chanting music – 2axel, 3flip (fall), 2lutz/2loop, 3toe/2toe, 3sal, 2toe, 2axel/2toe. It was nice for her to get off some triples and a few 2axels. Her flip entrance is a little scary. I was really impressed with her choreography and artistry. She had some very nice moves in the field. She had nice spirals, a good layback spin, a good ina bauer, and this awesome spin where she lifts her leg and puts it over her head, extremely innovative. She skated with great speed and very nice edges. [4.3 – 5.1, 4.3 – 5.1]

8. Holly Bugbee (maroon dress) – 2axel, 3toe (two-footed), 2sal, 2loop, 2sal, ina bauer/2flip, 2lutz/2loop, 2flip (two-footed), 2axel/2toe sequence. It was nice to see a few 2axels landed along with a 3toe even though it was two-footed, and the fact that she stood up on all her jumps. She had a nice footwork section and nice speed throughout the program. [3.9 – 4.5, 4.0 – 4.5]

9. Susannah Hall (black and white dress) – “Swan Lake” – 2axel, 3sal (fall), 2loop/2loop, 2flip, 2sal/2toe, 2lutz (fall), 2axel (fall). She started off strong with the 2axel, but the program went downhill from there. She did have a nice straight-line footwork sequence, very nice charlotte, and beautiful spirals.

10. Trina Robinson (light blue dress) – “Violin Fantasy on Puccini’s Turandot” – 2axel (fall), 3toe (two-footed), 2lutz (wild), 3loop (cheated), 2axel (fall), 3sal (under-rotated), 2flip, 2toe/2toe. Rough performance for her. She did have a nice layback and smile though. [3.2 – 3.7, 3.6 – 3.8]

11. Jenna Leigh Adams (purple dress) – “Theme from Missing”/”Samb Adagio” – 2axel, 2sal, 3toe (fall), 2lutz/2toe/2loop, 2axel (fall), 1axel/2flip sequence, 1axel, 2lutz, 2flip. She reminded me a lot of Nicole Watt in terms of physique. I’m glad she used “Samb Adagio.” It’s another awesome piece of music by Safri Duo and I’ve been waiting for somebody to skate to it. She had a very nice layback spin, and an awesome straight-line footwork sequence. It was probably the best footwork in the ladies competition. You’d think it was choreographed by Nikolai Morosov.

12. Nicole Adamoyurka (black dress) – Spanish music – 2axel (small cheat), 3toe (small cheat), 3sal (flip-out), 2lutz, 2loop/2loop, 2axel/2loop, 1lutz. Highlights of her program for me were a great catch-foot spin and pretty spread eagles. [3.4 – 3.9, 3.6 – 4.0]

13. Elizabeth Siematkowski (blue dress) – “Dance of the Tumblers” – 2lutz (step-out), 2axel (fall), 2loop, 2lutz, 2sal (hand down), steps/2flip, 2axel (fall). Some highlights included a nice layback spin and spirals. [3.2 – 3.7, 3.5 – 3.8]

14. Lindsay Witalis (black dress) – “Nyah” – 2axel (stumble), 2loop?, 2sal (fall), 2flip (fall), 1lutz, 2axel (cheated and turn-out), 2flip. Her artistry was better than the previous ladies despite all the problems on the jumps. She had some nice steps and footwork.

15. Dawn Cassell (black and silver dress) – anthem music – 2axel (fall), 2flip/2toe sequence, 3sal (fall), 2flip (fall), 2loop, 2axel (cheated), 2lutz, 2toe. She had a really bad flying camel spin, and she also was not very fast or exciting to watch. [2.9 – 3.7, 3.1 – 3.5]

16. Laura Lemoine (black dress) – “Scheherazade” – 2axel (fall), 1loop, 2lutz (fall), 1sal, 2toe, 2flip, 1axel (fall). She struggled with every jump. Her style was boring, and her spins were very slow. She did have a nice ina bauer though. [2.5 – 2.9, 3.1 – 3.2]

I was wondering the same thing, Skatewatch, about Trina. She was definitely the oldest lady in the competition, and I'm also curious as to what her age was. She had a rough skate, and I was surprised she made it to the final group. I give her a lot of admiration and respect though for competing with these younger girls. :)

Whoa there. I think Trina Robinson is in her mid-twenties which would make her about 10 years older than all the teenagers. She has simply been skating for a long time (she was in Senior as far back as 1998), and is definitely not an adult skater. Adult skaters are defined as skaters who began skating when they were oveer the age of 25.

Mids Senior Men (Servov and Miller withdrew)

Short

Mauro Bruni – DA; Lutz- fall; Flip. Not a particularly athletic
skater but some nice lines and elements. Straightforward and no
cotuming issues. He does the choreography with alertnerss but
is not "into" or really inside a part-of the music; he need
to be more musical. 4.4/4.9

Rohene Ward – famous skater on the boards, I'd never seen him
before. Opened with a few steps right up into a very high quality TA;
then he seemed to have a mental lapse; he over-rotated a TT
which might be considered a Quad attempt but I'm not buying it;
he popped the Lutz to a single. Good spinning and originality helped
him here but wouldn't in real competition since his failures
are onviously mental and therefore a lot more disappointing. 4.2/5.0

Johnny Weir – he was subdued the entire event; hard to tell why.
OUTFIT issues. He's still appraoching skating from a junior mens
perspective. The costume was in the Plushenko vein of
theatricality-for-its-own-skae mode and made him look younger than he
is. Still he jumped with remarkable ease. Lutz/TT; stepped out of
the TA; Flip. 5.3/5.6

Rusty Fein – Terrible outfit with tassles. Note to Men: dangling
things on arms, backs, and legs are distracting. Flip/TT-short-of-
rotation(SOR); DA; Lutz-fall. It was an interesting program
very enjoyable to watch. 4.2/4.7

Richard Reyor – he's really a club skater, still working on
DA and the first triples. Fun to watch someone do this purely for
their own reasons. He didn't land any of the jump elelements;
improved stroking spins and positions from last year. Obviously a
hard worker. 3.6/4.2

Free Skate

Rayor – he managed one TT, but didn't do a double axel. Lots
of missed or incomplete jumps throughout. Again basic skating and
spins have improved. Admirable skater. 2.9/4.2

Fein: This outfit I loved a blue number very classy. Exceptionally
well thought out choreography, some might say "voidy."
Lot's of technical problems however. Loop;DA;Lutz-slight two-
foot/touch down; Salchow-POP; TT-doubled. Fantastic forward jumps
where he jumped into the air didn't rotate covered some ice and
then came back down nicely. Incredibly difficult. With some better
content and even without a TA attempt this is one of the better
programsI've seen artistically in a while. 3.8/5.3

Ward – Skate to Glory. I think this concept is not sophisticated
enough for him. I don't see how the civil war can be thematically
represented in a figure skating performance. Struck me as dumb.
Nice outfit that had zero to do with the theme. Weirdly he managed a
very nice TA at the beginning and then couldn't buy a jump; TT-
fall;TA-singled; Salchow-doubled; Salchow; Lutz-popped;Loop-fall; did
a DA in the other direction. Nice layback spins and interesting stuff.
4.3/5.2

Weir – Finally the Dr.Zhivago without psycho-drama. TA/TT;
Salchow; TA-fell; Lutz; Flip-doubled; Loop. That's five triples
without really trying too hard. Unfortunately this program now
seems both too easy for him technically and not innovative and
artistically challegning enough for him. I'm like why would a
potentially great artist bother skating to this music? It's a
dead-end; he's surpassed it by a mile. He's very fey and
boyish. He's got to be boldly, you might say manishly, fey. Otherwise
the current mood of tortured-artist/teenage angst will become even
more tedious. 5.3/5.5

Bruni – Lutz-doubled; Flip; Loop-fall; Salchow; Da-singled; TT-
singled. This program hasn't even begun to be worked out in terms
of where everything goes. But he's apleasant skater to watch and
had some good spins. He managed two triples. 4.0/4.6

It was fun. Adrian, Lorrie, Liz, and Slyvia were all there and were
so much fun to hang out with. Next stop ... Reading,PA.

Marks/Comment Junior Ladies Free

Mid Atlantics – Junior Ladies Free Skate

Kristie Houser – She managed a double Flip and Lutz; was short-of-rotation (SOR) on her DA.
One fall, several steps outs and a popped double Flip. 3.4/3.9

Nikki Gallo – Nice purple dress. She tried two Das, but singled both and even fell on one of
them. Only landed the double Salchow and Toe cleanly (two toes) a fall on a Double Lutz and
didn’t get all the way around on several double loop attempts. 3.6/4.0

Jennifer Russo – Tried on Da, but it was a botch. Numerous doubles landed fairly well, included
two Lutzs and a Flip; however, she was SOR on a bunch of others including a Flip and Loop.
4.1/4.2

Jennifer Pelletier – Skated to a Carmen type theme. She fell on both DA attempts. Managed
many pretty good doubles including Lutz, Flip, sal and Loop; big two-foot on another Lutz and
on another Flip. She got fatigued and ended quite a bit after the music stopped. 4.2/4.3

Jenn Dunckley – Triple Sal-SOR; falls on double Flip and DA; Two-footed a double Lutz and
popped another; held on to a Double loop and completed a double toe. Note to Coach: NEVER,
repeat NEVER, allow a skater to compete in white dress. Jenn has an intense style I like and
she’s got some power and flow over the ice I appreciated. 4.0/4.4

Michelle Wiggett – Tall willowy, but another very poor skate. She opened with D-Flip/D-Loop
and then fell on an attempted Triple Salchow ... bad two-foot and step out on Da; and another fall
on a triple Salchow attempt. She managed another Flip and Loop as well as a Double Toe.
4.1/4.6

Alexandra Denham – began with a double Lutz/double Loop combo; DA-fall; TT attempt -fall;
nice layback; big SOR on attempted triple salchow; tried a triple loop but did all of the third
rotation on the ice; ended with a DA that was way SOR. Nice skater though. 4.3/4.6

Amy Goldstein – this was a good skate for her. Double Lutz/Toe combo followed by a triple
Salchow attempt with a two-foot landing and some stumble steps out; big SOR on DA; big SOT
on Triple Toe; double Flip/Toe combo; and she almost got all a way around on a DA near the
end. Good music, nice presence on the ice.

Vanessa Koo – who described her skate afterward in disparaging terms, actually skated a
disappointingly ‘ok’ program. Both DA were SOR; stumble stepped sloppily out of a SOR triple
Salchow attempt. Singled another Axel attempt and stepped out of a final double Flip. Otherwise
she managed several nice doubles. This program isn’t right for her, all at the same level or
tempo; that is to say “flat” musically. This inhibits her style.

**** I asked several judges why they seemed on both programs a bit “cold” to her as a performer,
and they provided a sort of standard answer that while she doesn’t project outward to the
audience, forgetting, of course, that sometimes that can be not only intentional stylistically but
effective. You ask for too much Ta-Da-ing, you get too much Ta-Da-ing. 4.0/4.9

Final Group

Leah Agler – Opens with a DA out of nowhere; Triple Salchow looked okay probably clean or
slightly two-foot; tried a triple loop-fall; a triple toe-fall; nice delay on the double Lutz; double
Flip/DT and a nice double Lutz at the end. Generally good spins, footwork, and other in-
betweens. Gorgeous music. 4.5/4.7

Jenny Erica – she came undone, though she did manage to do one clean TT. She failed on two
DA attempts and two Triple Salchow attempts. She stepped out of a double Lutz, and badly two-
foot a double Flip at the end. Botch. To say I didn’t like the dress wold be an understatement.
4.3/4.5

Krystre Wertz – She had an amazing Radka Kovarikova thing going, so much so that she did
some stroking pattern reminiscent of Radka and Renee’s 1995 free skate. Beautiful dress.
Opened with a D-Toe; almost got around on a T-Sal, but stepped out badly; good double Flip;
good DA; Double Lutz-hand down; double Loop/loop; and several more doubles. She didn’t fall,
maybe the only skater to stand up all the way through. It was a nice program. 4.4/4.6

Kristina Moore – Melt down mode. Falls on triple Lutz and Flip, and a bad step out from a triple
Loop. She landed a double Lutz, and doubled what was meant to be a TT; she did land a Triple
salchow/Double Toe; but then badly two-footed a final DA. In the end she had one triple and no
DA. 4.6/4.4

Jennifer Milton -- This was a perky program I (again) thought might charm the judges, but they
remained unmoved. Virtually all the jumps were SOR and/or two-footed, including both triple
Salchows attempts and both DA attempts. She did do Walley/Walley/step forward into a Double
Flip was pretty nice. 3.9/5.0

I went: Agler, Wertz, Moore, Milton
Panel went, IIRC Agler, Moore, Milton, Wertz

I wasn't very specific about the dress. My notes said "hideous" and I wasn't absolutely sure whether it was the dress or the music, so I took a guess. Glad to know I guessed right.

i think that jennys long program dress was one of the most beautiful at the competition, and when i asked jenny about her her short program dress she told me it was a remake of silvia fontana's (italian national champ and one of jenny's coaches and choreographer) that was named one of the most beautiful at worlds a few years ago. It was black with orange flowers and i remember jenny wearing it at liberty and i gues she made her own with pink flowers

She has simply been skating for a long time (she was in Senior as far back as 1998), and is definitely not an adult skater. Adult skaters are defined as skaters who began skating when they were oveer the age of 25.

I have seen Trina skate as a Younster . I believe she may be

about 30 years of age now,

I noticed she had one boot off right after the SP, and had ice later on it too - maybe she hurt herself somehow in the SP, which was a much better skate than her FS.
