Was anyone else a little bit annoyed with the most recent issue of Blades coverage of the Olympic Pairs event? It seemed to me, that in trying to be unbiased, they downplayed B & S's errors and at the same time downplayed S & P's technical brillance. I didn't like the comment that S & P were emoting :x ! Excuse me, but they were developing the mood of their program!! Whether you like B & S or S & P's artistic style is a matter of taste IMHO. Of course, most of us would agree that the media concentrated on the Russian's minor technical errors a little too much. However, this became necessary IMO because a couple of the judges tied the two teams for technical. I realize they both have their strengths technically, but the fact remains that the Russians did have a few sloppy pair moves in the Free Program (catch on the 3-twist - catching her under her armpits instead of by the waist, landings on throws, etc.). Well, after all that, rumour is that S & P will be featured in the next issue of Blades. I wonder if they'll ask them about their "emoting", just kidding. :-)

Blades has been anti-canadian for years. To me anyways 8)

They should at least write about what actually happened on the ice. Their style of writing is so unemotional and flat. Were they watching the same event? JMO

Yes, I think the other magazines will be (and are) giving Blades a run for its money. Blades goes into SUCH detail (even telling what kind of pillows Ben Ferreira takes on tour, lol), sort of a blow by blow description. After I went to the Worlds in Vancouver, I loved it because it described so much that I had seen (and all the things I hadn't, smile). But most of the time I find it hard to read through it because of the detail. I have appreciated their tribute to past Canadian champions such as Donald Jackson, etc. A lot of the time it goes unread when I buy it I'm afraid. They also have had Canadians on front of their magazine which is more than I can say for IFS (S & P were the only ones in over 4 years).

I hadn't noticed the anti-Canadian thread in Blades, or at least American bias, until this past issue, but you are right.

IFS is getting on the Canadian bandwagon now I've noticed and is improved that way. I would like to see more variety in the cover stories though. 95% or more of their covers in the past 5 years have been of American female skaters. It gets a bit tiresome.

Spotlight on Skating is making a real step up I think and are becoming competitive. They are getting creative such as having Yagudin writing his own column and have excellent Canadian content as they are a Can. based mag. They have a really nice feature on Brian Orser this issue. I just got it the other day and was very impressed with it. :)
