pinched nerve in foot - ouch

Yesterday morning I woke up with a burning sensation along the top of my right foot (it starts under my second/third/fourth toes) and into the inside of my ankle, as well as along the inside of my thigh. It feels as though I've pinched a nerve - I don't know if I laced my boot too tight on Wednesday or stretched oddly or what. Anyway, it really hurts, and the top of my right foot is a little swollen. Has anyone else done this? Any suggestions on relieving it? Should I put hot or cold packs on it, or maybe do some massage? This couldn't come at a worse time because I'm scheduled to test in 8 days, and the right leg is my landing leg. And I really need to practice, but I'm afraid to do more damage by putting a skate back on it.

I remember doing this when I was younger, only in the left foot and usually it happened while stepping into a spin. It hasn't hurt in a long time, but I did it so often as a kid that I now have a permanent swollen look (it might be scar tissue) on the top of my left foot. I really don't want the same thing to happen to my right foot. Maybe I should go see a doctor? If I did, would this be something for a podiatrist or an orthopedist?

Definitely go see a doctor who can start you on the road to recovery right away. Good luck, and heal quick!
