Help!!! Rust!!!

*panic attack over*

OK, so I had a little rust on the joints of my blades to the boot... but I googled it and this method worked fine:

a)get a metallic sponge/brush
b)put some baking soda on it
c)rub the area until rust is gone

although I did not manage to get into every tiny little gap... but I hope that the rust from there doesn't spread.

anyway - from now on, I'm drying my blades SO thoroughly...

p.s. In rinks, they never seem to dry blades on hire skates - don't they then have to be replaced like every week?

Cheap blades are often chrome plated which inhibits rust.

I apply a generous coating of Turtle Wax (automotive wax) to my blades before I mount them. It fills in any tiny pours and inhibits rust. It also means that finger marks wipe right off and the stay nice and shiny.

Apparently Halfords sell WD40 in stick form, rather than spray form. Wipe your blades with that after you've dried them.

Some skaters I know wipe their blades off with a tissue or some loo paper first, and then dry them with a towel. And you do keep them in towelling soakers, don't you, not in the hard guards?!
