sweet scent: Worked on Jumps with inline coach(shh, my secret). Big help on Sal, lutz and waltz working towards axel. Almost had a 2sal but I opened up and landed forward.

sneeze: My 2nd rink is closed for 2 months. Have to find new weekend ice time.

what I meant by "walking off", is she refused to complete my hour lesson that I had paid for.

i pay $16 per half hour for freestyle.

is that cheap really? i also pay 5.00 for ice time, though.

Interesting.....

Paso day

Sweet Scent: Paso was much improved today. I'm starting to get more shape on the cross-behinds after the back breakout and before the step forward.

Worked solo and with coach today... working on improving my partnering in this dance (said partnering is pretty marginal through the mid-section, because my brain is in overload keeping track of the steps and keeping the left side from dropping, etc).

The last 10 minutes of my lesson we did Paso to music. First time reeked, 2nd time better... so the dance definitely has promise between now and June.

Sneeze: Said partnering from above. Also the step-forward to come around the end of the rink. It's more of a lurch than a "bring the feet together and push". OTOH, until recently I couldn't do it cleanly in the same tempo as what I was using for the back break-out.... and the mohawk at the end of the dance was early.

I returned to the ice today for a lesson. I had an injury, but got clearance to try skating again, and my first time out was just a mess. So with trepidation I booked a lesson and ohmygoodness, most of everything came back to me.

What's weird is that I can't do mohawks anymore and I have done them since I was about three years old. Suddenly 3 turns are my new best friend and I wasn't ever very good at them. It was probably the injury to my back, I bet it realigned my hips.

And even more weird is that my spins are centered. Coach and I stood in awe at my ice tracings. I hope I can keep that. I need some more rehabilitation, but I had a very sweetly scented day today.

Lesson with my secondary coach

Today is FO3 days and she notices that I could do RFO3 WAAAAY better than my LFO3. (Like tell me something I dont already know!!!) It turned out to be a body alignment issue and that's what we spent the entire lesson doing!!!

Spring sweet scent: My secondary coach got my body aligned on my LFO3 so I could get more control out of the 3turns. By the end of the lesson, she was raving to another coach and said "YOU saw her at the beginning when she was doing her FO3's. Look at her NOW!!!" (pointing to me...) The other coach was quite surprised. Managed to do some on the power 3 patterns, but couldn't get them consistently (except for the very first LFO3 pattern...)

I'm looking forward to our next lessson. Hopefully she'll start on my new artistic program!!!

Sneeze:
  • Managed to do some on the power 3 patterns, but couldn't get them consistently (except for the very first LFO3 pattern...)
  • I also have a bit of the usual humiliation factor that this secondary coach just LOVE to put on me to get me to do something right! She threatened me with tying my bangs together and use that as a visual aid to make me keep my head forward. Of course, I didn't want the humiliation, and did the next one exactly the way she wanted to... and of course, she ROARS with laughter knowing that I definitely didn't want the humiliation...

Wed night practice

ACHOO!!!!

You know... I'm beginning to think that I better switch my practice times on Wed. nights so I get in a bit more productive time! The only reason I was there today is to play "Auntie Jazzpants" to a bunch of fellow young skaters. I didn't get much productive practice done b/c I have WAAAAY too many skaters on ice. And the secondary coach isn't there for me to do the "Dog and pony" show, so it wasn't worth it in the end to show up that night!

I'm sure that if she is in any way professional, she will make up the time to you later on, when you are both fresher. Is an hour perhaps a little much at a time? Maybe you could arrange with her to have 30 minutes, then she take someone else while you have a breather, then the other 30 minutes? That's what my coach does with those of his skaters who have more than 30 minutes' teaching each day - they are supposed to get off the ice and go and drink hot chocolate in the interim!

I had a brill lesson today! I hadn't seen my coach for 3 weeks and it was so much fun. We worked on the loop and the backspin. Each went very well. I was doing backspin from standstill, but I've taught myself the entry that a friend showed me, so I'll really "wow" him next week, because I can get quite a few revolutions and it's quite fast!
Loops scare me, as do cherry flips. I keep getting told I need more confidence, more confidence, but I don't like them!!!

I'm really annoyed, I accidentally pulled a lace out of it's hole when lacing up this morning, and I couldn't get it back in. I managed though. Problem is, I remember the last time that I relaced my skates, it took me about half an hour to get one through. I think I used selotape...It's okay, I'll fix it on friday night...

Sweet scent- Jumps are coming along fairly well. I've got the spring back into my salchow and can do a loop off-ice...Now on-ice I can't manage to figure out when and where and how to jump.

Sneeze- Busted my left hip (starting to become a trend). My change foot spin is offensive. The second I go into the back spin I lean funny and end up either sprawled on the ice or falling out of the spin.

Sweet scent: Edges not nearly as bad as I'd feared; the Canasta Tango one was easily cured by fixing the entry to the dance! And although there are a couple of faults that need to be cured in the Golden Skaters' Waltz, I did manage to get a decent edge a couple of times.

I think I must be getting more aware of my edges, as I'm more aware how awful they can be at times!

Sneeze: We spent almost all the rest of the lesson on 2 steps - the LFO/RFO3 in the Willow Waltz! For once, it was him-not-me - his lordship wasn't getting his LBO edge right (I could have told him that, but would he listen? You guess!). Some of our faults on that dance are me, but not all!
Would some kind person who skates in Ann Arbor please take an indelible marker and scrawl something very rude on the bald head of the ice dancer whose brilliant idea it was to make the pre-Bronze couples do that dance this year? I'll be very tempted to do it myself next week.... maybe I'll just make him dance it with me today fortnight!!!!
