It's funny, isn't it, how one's body says "NO!" even when one's brain says "Yes". Still, all you could do is try.... and maybe next week you'll be better enough to go back, maybe you won't. All you can do is wait and see how fast you heal.

Also one thing I COULD do when I couldn't sit behind a computer was sewing, particularly on hand, so I finally attached all those dozens of buttons, tags, fixed all the small holes, zippers etc that had been bothering me for ages in my wardrobe.
Use the time to focus on all the stuff which you've been putting off because of the skating
And I wanted to get back onto the ice faster after the whiplash too, for the club competition, but in the end I just went to watch. Which was fun also. Thing is, I probably could've, but there's no telling what would happen if I'd have taken a fall - and that's a big risk in competition, where you're nervous and more prone to falling... Seriously, sit this one out. There's years and years of competitions and skating ahead as long as you recover.
You could focus on e.g. getting the splits, if your back doesn't bother you on those? Useful skill for skating. Or read a few books like, conditioning for figure skaters or something. Nutrition. etc.
Thanks for that. I'd forgotten about all the sewing I've been putting off because I'm permanently at a rink, you're right, now is a great time to get on and do it. And yes, I've never had the splits and my legs don't seem to be too badly affected by the back so there's no reason why I can't start learning the splits now. And I probably have lots of time to dig out my dutch books again and start learning.
That's actually a really postive way at looking at all these things, Sessy, and I really needed to hear it. I hope that you're well on the way to your own recovery and get a chance to hit the ice before the season in the Netherlands is over.

Funny how the brain doesn't listen to the body until the body really and truly screams "NO!!"!
I think it's a case of the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.
As you say, you can buy try. Maybe next week it will be better and maybe not. Hopefully in having some time off the ice will have missed me and be more forgiviing!

Try lying in a nice warm bath with Epsom Salts nightly because it brings down swelling and stiffness.

You might also try using a therapy pool at your local gym. If you have stretching exercises from your physiotherapist, the stretches are easier to do and more effective in the heated therapy pool. I know because I've had a few car accidents where I had whiplash and I've also had a work place accident that mess up my neck, back and shoulders.
