Male here as well....just a tad older. I will be 60 this spring.
I won't have to worry about competing against you gentlemen at Adult Nationals since I would be in Class V.

Ok, so just wondering did you guys like LEARN ICESKATING IN YOUR 20's

I'm 24 and just started skating 2 years ago in Mexico.
It has been difficult at times, in my rink there is only me and another guy that is a senior skater. So I guess you have to have a lot of patience; but when you master a skill, pass a test or do well in a competition it's worth it I guess..... |

It Seems that late Adult Male skaters that want to take it seriously are a rarity everywhere

I started at 52. I did play hockey in college and have a rebuilt left knee because of the hockey.
Starting late means it just takes longer to learn. I have a pretty decent waltz jump and Salchow. I have been doing more figures lately since my jumping days are probably numbered. So when I take the ice during a session, I usually have two distinctions, the only male and the oldest. ![]() ![]()

![]() There are several "adult onset" male skaters in our area. Not as many as the women, but then again, there aren't as many kid boys as there are girls. At AN, there are enough men to make most levels a challenge. We ladies love to have new men join our ranks. You'll be scoped for being a dance partner and a pairs partner. If you are interested in either one of those disciplines, you will have no problem finding a partner. If not, you will still have the support of all of us adult ladies who love to see men skate! Hope you enjoy skating! ![]()

I'm 18 and male. I think I want to take tests but I really don't want to compete.

There are two guys at my rink who are in their early 20s...both started skating in their 20s or late teens. One now has double jumps
![]() I occasionally teach Basic Skills, and three out of five of my Adult 2-3 students were male last session, and two of them were in their late 20s. My husband is 28 and just started skating this past September in hockey skates. Got him figure skates for Christmas, and he's now learning his 2-foot spin from back crossovers, and has a toeloop, waltz, and half flip. I WILL convert him into an ice dancer, though...just you wait! ![]() So...it's not so uncommon. |

Any tall & strong male skaters out there who are looking to skate pairs with another guy?
![]() I would love to be lifted and thrown again ![]() I was doing some pairs tricks before with some guy and I loved it since. Too bad, he doesn't want to go to Gay Games b/c he was str8 ![]()

Going back to the original question, there are at least four men at our rink who didn't start to skate until they were in their 40s or even 50s. Most of our non-elite male skaters are in their 50s or older - I think the oldest is well into his 70s now, we have a couple in their 60s and several in their 50s. Quote:

I suppose the Artistic couples could be a version I havent studied the rules lately but I cant say I persoanlly have seen anything like men doing pairs at Bracknell. I have seen two men doing lifts on the ice but only in a show and nothing quite as demanding as full pair lifts, I should think it would be awesome to watch two powerful male skaters together skating and doing lifts. Do you have any pictures David?

Oh dear Kodlan I think you musunderstood the question, I was asking if the Gay Games was for Gay people only which by the title of the competition suggest so, in other words could you enter if you are not gay.

Samba, I reckon the Gay games are there for Gay people, which I think is great for them having a sport they can feel comfortable in competing in.
Some Life partners (male and Male or Female and Female) would love to skate together and compete together, so its a chance for them to enjoy it. ![]() |
