Splatting
Today i worked on double loop and double salchow mainly in my lesson and I didnt land any of them. I also took bad fall on a layback and bruised my left side Landing My camel decided to change positions into a more open position and some how it works pretty good.

Splatting: Lutz Yuck! My camel is still a lumpy Llama, no where near an actual camel.
Landing: Nice flip and loop and i've got a lot of combo's down now too. My sit spin is doing fairly well, I just need to get lower into the sit. Back spin is getting strong too ![]() Cid |

Splatting: My coach is on vacation
![]() Landing: Lots of things! 1. I was told I'm almost ready to take my American! 2. I have a call in to my fitter- I'm finally getting new skates! (and not a mintue too soon- my blades literally probably cannot be sharpened more than once more) 3. I have two weeks to skate as much or as little as I want. After Lake Placid, I'm almost always ready for a break. I've been skating an hour and half to two hours a day M-F and an hour on Saturday mornings for the last four months. I'm going to take it easy on the ice and do lots of off-ice until I get my new skates, and then focus on breaking them in until my coach gets back.

Landing: I think I'm getting my lutz on the outside edge--I'll have to have my coach watch me. It doesn't feel weird anymore, so I'm either on the inside edge, or I'm doing it and getting used to it. I was also able to do the waltz-ballet jump and the flip-toe loop she started me on this week. They both scare the crap out of me.
Splatting: Scratch spin--it mostly wasn't on today. I think I did one and got my free foot mostly across, but definately not consistantly. I was focusing on keeping my right arm and leg together today. The arm likes to move faster than the leg. ![]() |

Landing: Sit/change sit is back. Eh ha!!!! Back scratch and camel are fine too.
Splatting: I'm trying to get my jumps back.....and now I have the chicken factor to deal with, darn it all. So far loop, flip and lutz are one sorry sight. Fortunately, my lutz is the least pathetic. That's not saying much though. Hmmm, wonder how 1/2 jumps will fare in Silver? So frustrating!!! ![]() |

Splatting No lessons for me, either, because my primary coach is away and my secondary coach couldn't teach me last night. Next lesson will be Sunday. sigh. Also, I am starting to hate the backward perimeter crossover stroking move on the bronze moves test. Just not getting the pattern right.
Landing Last night I seem to have gotten the hang of doing 3 waltz jumps in a row without any steps in between. They were small and slow but done correctly, I think! I'll have to wait until Sunday to find out. Also 5 step mohawk is improving ever so slightly... now I can do both sides in sequence without any steps or stopping completely in between... but they're tiny. Also, I don't know if it will be landing or splatting, but I signed up for the Adult Edge workshop at Aston on the 28th. I hope to survive! Happy skating, Pat |

Congratulations, Stormy!
Splatting: I actually did, for once! I caught my toe on the Rhythm Blues and measured my length; luckily didn't bang my knee to hard, but was laughing too hard to get up in a hurry. Plus overdid it yesterday and feel like a strand of boiled spaghetti today! Landing: We finally got to practice our free dance, and to run it through a couple of times to the music - once okay, the second time, Robert rushed and rushed and rushed at the end of our step sequence, which made it go all wrong. Oh well. It just needs practice now.... Our compulsory dances in the social dance session were great! We were faster and covered more ice than ever - but I got so tired I had to get off half-way through, and am tired today!

Yet another congrats to Stormy!
Splatting: Caught my toepick on F crossovers today for the first time in years. Just managed avoiding a splat, but went quickly from the almot forward sprawl splat to an almost off my heels splat in the recovery. The ice was soft and slow, and I am sooo out of shape. I haven't been able to get to the rink more than once a week, I haven't had a lesson in months, and now I won't be able to afford any until the outdoor season begins and my coaching income picks up. Landing: Not much. Holding my own on the FO and FI threes, but not much progress. F power pulls are improving. I seem to be getting the feel of the knee work and keeping my weight back more, although I did nearly go off the back of the skate last week.

This was for Monday night (16th)...
I've been having a bad streak in skating since my not passing the Bronze moves test and am very discouraged right now... The latest ones:
Splatting: Am concentrating on forward stroking (no toe pick) and straight legs, per my secondary coach's "suggestions" (ummm...threats? She told me that if I don't get rid of those "toe scratches" that she's gonna slap hockey skates on me. Also, if I don't straighten my free leg, she's gonna have all her students and skating friends of mine pick on me about it.) ![]() I also had to work on forward crossovers going clockwise to make sure they don't break again... There were some major problems with it! (The judges at the test were right about my leg not crossing all the way across on this side.) Only one Landing: I can actually do forward spins again, thanks to the blade alignment. It's still not perfect, but at least I won't go on that toe pick as often.

I did a skating seminar today, and I was the slowest on the ice. However, I had fun and learned a lot.
Landing: Even though I don't have forward scratch down yet, the instructor started teaching me back scratch steps. I think he sensed I might have been bored of scratch after scratch attempt for nearly 15 minutes. I usually practice them for shorter times, several times in a session rather than one long time. I also learned cross steps and some foot work. I'm going to try to skate tomorrow and impress my coach on Tuesday. Splatting: Ok, I found out just how out of shape I am. ![]() |

Skated for the first time in 3 weeks on Thursday (was away for vacation, etc.). I felt a little rusty but had a great lesson & edge class.
Landing-- Worked on mohawks, which were surprisingly fairly respectable by the end of the lesson. Backspin was fairly good on CCW side, most surprisingly of all! I felt very centered and kept the free leg extended to the front until I wanted to pull in. If only CW were stronger. I feel like I have too much external rotation in my skating leg on that side, whereas on CCW, my leg is pretty much in a neutral position and my weight is then over my skating foot, instead of behind it and within a wide circle. Splatting-- Wussy wussy waltz jumps--though I didn't really focus on jumping on Thursday. |
