The skating parents in "Ice Princess"

YIKES! Some of them are my model of how NOT to be! EEK.

Plus, gotta love the "Snow Plow Sam" class that has kids learn loops and lutz jumps. LOL! DD is watching this movie for the 100th time and you should hear her comments! It's quite funny. "She needs to get that loop higher! She barely jumped off the ice." Funny girl.

My favorite part is in the dressing room afterwards -- and the little girls all pass their novice test --- and Casey passes her Junior! Um from a show program done in the dark with little kids in costumes after a few weeks of lessons.....I know its the movies but still - couldn't they have been a little more realistic. But then - it is Hollywood and we should be grateful that at least the writers knew enough to have Casey pass a test to qualify - instead of simply jumping out of the crowd and saying..I want to compete!

C'mon - didn't anyone else have that daydream when you went to skating shows/competitions?
I used to fantasize about that as a kid! (I'm not a delusional adult - I know that won't happen.)

Are there any new skating movies coming out? I think Cutting Edge 3 is the last one I heard about.

Yeah, aren't they doing a remake of "Ice Castles"? I don't know when it's due to be released, though.

They filmed a made-for-tv skating movie at my rink sometime in 2008, summer, maybe? I believe it's called Ice Dreams and is supposed to be out on the Hallmark channel sometime in January. I'm not expecting much from it, TBH.

Synopsis on IMDB

I think they're also starting to get ready for The Cutting Edge 4. The actress from the third one and a new actor were being trained at my rink over the summer.

There's always "Pop Star on Ice".

Dd was laughing about the dressing room thing. She's taking her first test next month and I looked at her and said: "Just so you know, that is not how a test is run." LOL!! I think she knew that already but it was funny! I so enjoyed hearing her commentary! She still loves the movie.

I was impressed that the lead actress actually did some of the skating herself. I hated how they trivialized the testing structure though - made it seem like such a joke having it presented that way.

No one besides those that have tested (and their parents and coaches) realize that you do it in front of nationally sanctioned judges, and the standards set (once past pre-pre, which is really just an encouragement test) are pretty clear and stringent. It takes a lot of effort to get that gold medal test!

As an aside, the girl that was the Jumping Shrimp has skated in competitions at our rink. I forget what her real name is, but she has always been extremely nice. And she is tall now
