But I did some awesome sitspins that will hopefully show up this weekend.
I made a final, unsucessful appeal to Coach to take out the scratch spin that's in the middle of my program. I kind of understand why she wants to keep it in, because the scratch spin is a required element on the Bronze freestyle test, but it's a sad state of affairs when your sitspin and backscratch spin are more reliable than a basic forward scratch.
That's not actually as strange as you think! I've got several combination spins, an axel and two double jumps and I STILL can't do a good forward scratch spin, LOL! I have one at the end of my program but I do it as a sit-scratch because the sitspin centers me and my free leg is already in front, which eliminates the stuff that always screws me up on the scratch spin entrance. I just stand up about 2/3 of the way from the sitspin, open a little and re-set, then bring it all into a scratch spin! You might want to try it next time!

I landed 1 of 2 axels in my new Gold FS program, which is an improvement from last week when I couldn't even land one at all. The double is out...whew.

They gave me 5:00am practice ice on Friday...what's up with that?? Oh well, I guess I can go back to sleep afterwards and get back in time to watch Joanna.

I will be making the 6 hour drive on Thursday night.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone!

PattyP with new Interp and prompts??? I'm sooooo there!!! Nice to hear that your axel decided to come back. Meanwhile, I've blessed the ice for you yesterday, so hopefully you'll skate well while you're here.

I'll leave with a comment that my primary coach would tell all his students: "Skate pretty!"

Special Guest Appearance at the Halloween Classic

So, the cat is out of the bag. I mentioned before that we were planning to have a few celebrity guests at the Halloween Classic. Here is the "official" announcement that Don Jackson (of Don Jackson skates, the 1st man to land a triple lutz in competition, 1962 World Champion, etc.) will be there and will be giving a presentation for the competitors (at no charge) at 6:00 on Saturday. Uschi Keszler (Elvis Stojko's former coach) and Liz Manley will also be around, so hopefully anyone whose interested will have a chance to meet and chat with them.

Can't wait to see everyone this weekend!

Now I KNOW that I will skate well, with a Joanna "ice blessing" in place!

Thanks!

Patty

Uh oh! NOOOOOW I'm nervous... I just saw the update list of skaters and there are actually now FIVE people in my group!!! Pressure!!! Pressure!!!

I better hope now that I continue my Silver medal winning streak... since winning a medal now would be a miracle. (My program was quite SUCKY this morning...why can't I skate well in a FS session but can do quite well in a slightly more crowded public session???)

Anyway, I hope everyone has a safe trip up/down/across to Philly--can't wait for everyone to get their skate on!

Good luck to all of you going to PA/SF for the competitions! Wish I could be there too, but I'll be spending my weekend dodging kids on the public sessions.

NoVaSK8r...You'll do awesome.

Just think of how good you two skated at your last competition or when we went to Hackensack?

Catch you on the flip side.

Um, last time, I almost DROPPED Loops during a lift. Here's hoping for a better program this time around!

Gulp; I hope not. Actually, she's quite good at falling on top of ME.
As our coach used to say, "Just don't fall." We've taken that to heart.

Everybody have a simply glorious weekend!

Now, all of you remember that you can't control what the other skaters do, and you can't control what the judges think. If you come off the ice pleased with how you skated, you're a winner, whether you place first or last. Have fun, skate great, and tell us all about it afterwards!

Some Skate SF results for Friday...

I got a Bronze this year for my artistic. Not too shabby, but I am a bit disappointed that I didn't skate my best this year. I definitely deserved the Bronze this year given the other skaters!

Secondary coach was quite surprised with my skating dress and makeup and all. She said "WOOO!!! You really cleaned up this time!!! You look like a.... WOMAN!!!" (Geez, thanks, coach... I think...)

As for PattyP, she also got the Bronze in her artistic program too. She unfortunately had to compete against a couple of competitive MASTERS level ladies, but she held her own with her FANTASTIC new Survivor's theme program, complete with a wooden spear for "fishing." WOO HOO!!!

I believe Patty is skating tomorrow as well in Gold II FS, so I'm looking forward to see her make her Gold II FS program. But from what I've seen in her artistic program today, she is totally ready to be a Gold II FS skater!!! And the ice is definitely blessed for this event. She will at least be proud of her skating tomorrow... I hope... (Crossing fingers that the blessing of the ice works...)

The Halloween Classic is going well so far--Phillyskater, you rock!

I just have to say before I head to bed (got a 7:15am practice session with Loops!) that flo is my new hero. She taught Loops and me how to do a star lift in the Marriot Hotel lobby!

Plus a bunch of us had some fun by the jacuzzi. Nothing like sneaking in some alcohol to the spa (thanks to flo!) ... I cannot NOT have vodka at a skating competition, right?

Amazingly, I won a co-gold in the improv event. And I didn't even use any jazz hands moves.

More later ....

Congratulations to our medallists, good luck to those who have yet to skate, and hope everybody else skated really well, too.
