It's basicly freestyle, but geared towards performance, music interpretation, audience appeal, projecting an overall theme...I guess you can say like theatrical skating.

Were you from: Singapore (originally born in Hong Kong, but have lived in London in the past 10 years. Just settled down in Singapore recently.)

Years skating altogether: more than 10 years. However, have 4 years break in between, thus the slow progress.

Years doing my discipline: 10 years freestyle skating, just started doing program in the last 3 months. Coach wanted me to have something to work on, rather than the random jumps and spins.

My life outside of skating: 10 months work experience in London, now waiting to be called to the Bar (graduation ceremony) on 26 November, hoping to find a decent job when I come back. I love watching movies, tv, socialising with people, reading books, catching up with friends and having church activities. I am now in leadership training in church.

Years Skating: 10 months
Years Doing Discipline: 10 months - Freestyle. Absolutely addicted to the ice, spinning, and jumping! Passed Pre-Bronze, but will be competing Bronze this January at Wyandote. Look out here I come!!!
Outside of Skating: Flash/Web Application Developer. Ballet/jazz hip hop , reading, running (on occasion when I am super antsy), lifting free weights, water skiing the course (during the summer...sad that its over for now..very..but hoping to be competing late next year in slalom skiing) and playing on my ski boat, swimming, listening to music (trance/progressive/dance). Synthetic hair rocks my world (dread wise) and I go out to a goth club every once in a great while when I get the itch to go cut loose on the dance floor.

Were your from: Delaware (probably one of the few natives left)

Years Skating altogether: almost 7 years

Years doing your Discipline: almost 7 years freestyle most of it (with a smattering of dance, pairs, synchro) and I've only missed on year's worth of shows.

Outside of Skating: I returned to college to become an RN, (enter clinicals in January 2010), I also hunt (pistol, archery, & shotgun), fish, belly dance, play the flute, sew, knit, crochet, cook, exercise, shuttle my son around to all his scouting activities, volunteer for the local hospice center, and care for my mother. Somewhere in there my husband tags along (he is waiting for me to finish my degree so he can retire but he doesn't skate anymore)

Hi, Dreamshark/Sharon - we're neighbors!

Name = Renee

Were your from = Minneapolis area, Minnesota

Years Skating altogether = 9 total, ages 10-18 with a big 20 year break. I just started again a year ago at 40.

Years doing your Discipline = Freestyle, but just started ice dance 2 months ago.

I also love doing artsy craftsy stuff like card making, scrapbooking, and making Christmas Ornaments. We are also season ticket holders to the local NFL team.

Hi jazzpants

So nice to know that you were born in Hong Kong too, so where are you settled now in?

Hi Morgail

You still managed to learn ice skating, after you practise law. That is wonderful!!!!! When do you have your lessons? I shall be called to the Bar, in London, at Lincolns Inn, on 26 November. I will get my Call certificate during the call day, and come back to Singapore on 1 December. The trouble is once I start practising law, no regular schedule of when I will be off work, and so will not know when to book in for lessons, as in my rink in Singapore, lessons have to be booked in advance. Also, my home rink in Singapore said that no lessons to be conducted on the ice in the weekends, though my coach said that now I can have lessons with her as to when and what time I want the lessons (that is: after I have got myself a permanent job).

It's not easy to fit the time in, but I'm lucky in that I work for a small firm that's flexible with my hours. So I take a 2 hour lunch once a week and have a lesson then. I try to come in early to make up the time. If I have something to do at work during my normal lesson time, my coach moves my lesson to another day. Your situation sounds tougher with having to book everything ahead of time. Does your rink have any evening times? I hope you can work something out!

Were your from = Baltimore, MD

Years Skating altogether = 3 Years

Years doing your Discipline = I only do Freestyle even though my coach is encouraging me to do dance. I'm scared to skate so close to someone for fear of injury. Besides, I like jumping too much.

Outside of Skating = Working!!! LOL I play 3 instruments(Piano, Alto Sax, Flute), sing , Bowling, Racquetball, and the occasional video game.
