You can get Mondor from Topskate, but I am not sure about Danskin.

They sell both kinds in the rink shop at Nottingham. I'm not sure if you can order them, but you could always phone and ask, if you know the kind you want.

(I looked at the prices the other day - are skating tights really that much??? WOW.)

JENSKATES has Mondor, but I love their own brand, and they are about half the price. They don't seem to have the adult lightweight in tan right now. I've sent an email asking about that.

Thanks

Topskate don't do the thick tights that I like for practise (the 'woolly' ones) but I guess I could ask Kev if he could get them in ..... he's a good boy

Rach, yes, they're expensive that's why I used to buy them on-line from the US or Canada, I saved a heck of a lot of money that way .... now if I could only find the shops that I used to buy from

Check out www.tidewaterice.com

They usually have a good price on Danskin and Mondor (and I believe Capezio) tights. Especially if you buy several pair at once.

I believe Danskin also sells online now-a-days. (With the exchange rate so poor for the dollar, at least against the euro, you might fare rather well...)

Based in Sheffield, we sell Mondor skating tights at a reasonable price.

JENSKATES responded to my email right away. Their new stock of adult lightweight tan tights are in production and will be ready in a few months. They keep costs down by ordering large quantities.

Actually, rather than buying dedicated skating tights for practice, why not head down to John Lewis? They do a load of "Opaque" tights in a variety of colours and weights (I like their 40 denier ones best) with almost no hard line at the top of the thigh, so quite suitable for skating, and they are 1/4 the price of skating tights - which latter can then be kept for "best".

At that, these days you can get cheap-and-cheerfuls in loads of different colours for about £7.00 each at TopShop. Although, come to think of it, they'd clash with your purple boots.... (I don't buy them because they'd clash with all my boot covers).

Are you just mail order or can I come by as I'm in the Mexborough area for a fortnight from 20th December?

Annabel, I've tried the John Lewis but can still see the line when they're on which I dislike! I've had a long standing affection for Danskin (from my ballet/dancing days) and have got tights that are far too old to admit to with very little wear and tear so I guess wear for wear they've been worth the money to me .... unfortunately the ones I like (No 73) seem to be really difficult to get in the UK.

Thanks everyone

Sorry, they're the same as skate tights only I'm from a dancing (ballet/jazz) background so I call them 'dance' tights as well as 'skate' tights!

Bowen overboot tights are made somewhere in the Nottingham/Leicester area of UK and much cheaper - about 10 to 12 pounds per pair. The quality is good, but they are competition weight, lighter than the woolly Mondors. They only do two sizes, child and adult, but the adult size will fit an average adult. They are advertised on the back of Ice Link. I believe that ESL (01875 820954) and Bunty (01209 844994) stock them.
