Canadian Adult Championship starts tomorrow!

Well this is it! Tomorrow morning is the beginning of the Canadian Adult & Star Skate Championships here in Calgary. My practice ice is 11 a.m. and my event is between 2 and 4:30 p.m. (depending on the skating order).

14 months ago, at the ripe old age of 56, I started skating; now here I sit awaiting my competitive debut at Nationals. HOLY SH!#, how did that happen?

My sprained ankle has been acting up a bit in practice but is holding (so far) - if I am going to blow the ankle, I'll do it in competition, not practice damnit! LOL!

My coach is here, she has my day laid out, so I guess I have to behave myself and follow orders (neither of which are my strong points - LOL!).

Wish me luck (and all the other adult Canadian skaters). Be back online when my coach turns me loose

Good luck! Have a truly, truly wonderful time.

And be sure and tell us all about it - someone remember to bump the thread where she does up on Tuesday for me, as I, too, am off to competition this weekend!

Pre-Introductory Women's Interpretive, Group D 4th place!

Damn I want to be on the podium! But I guess 4th in a National competition isn't too bad for skating 14 months and my first attempt at any sort of competition EVER! I guess I have to go again next year for that GOLD medal

Basically two of us got blown out of the water by two skaters that had way more elements. I did get some wonderful comments from the test judge and seemed to have the audience going

Off to the adult "Meet & Greet" now - and then SLEEP!

Dianne
(Not so "rusty" anymore I guess

I am not with my regular coach this week. I am with the head coach of Skate Winnipeg, a lady my own age who has put more skaters on the ice at more major competitions than I can imagine. She is about my age and she SCARES ME! When she says to do such-and-such at a particular time, I say "Yes Ma'am!" (Actually I trust her judgment so I do what I am told )

Oh, well then you will have to ask someone about the "ugly naked fat man"

In Adults? ABSOLUTELY! I have NEVER experienced anything like the spirit of the Adult Championships, EVER. With the din when I took to the ice I felt on top of the world! I even said to my coach, "I am going to OWN this place for the next four minutes!" (and this is from someone who is normally quite shy and reserved!) Though I didn't skate up to my normal level technically (nerves?), I (apparently) presented REALLY well and that was a direct result of the wild support. Absolutely AMAZING!

Off to the rink once more, in a couple of hours, for the final events in the Adult Championship and that will be a wrap for 2007!
