Skaters Anxiety and Strange Dreams

I had a very wacky dream last night.

First of all I had a great day yesterday - I figured out things on the loop, camel, and backspin that caused GREAT improvement in all three areas. I left the rink flying high.

In my dream I tried showing my coach that I was now able to do the things a little better but I couldn't do ANYTHING at all! And my coach didn't believe that I was able to do the stuff on Tuesday.

I must've been really into the dream too - I kept waking up from this dream, or rather nightmare, in different positions all over the bed - Camel spin at the foot of the bed (figures even in my dreams my spins travel ), jump landing position on my boyfriends side of the bed (he woke up to shove me back over to my side lol)...

Now I'm all anxious about my lesson tomorrow thinking that this will actually happen to me and I'll lose what I had on Tuesday.

Sheesh - what would I do if I was a competitive skater???

freaky!
I had a dream like that but mine was about my competition that is coming up. I had a dream that I messed it up really bad and didn't do anything right,my coach was ready to kill me ,but i woke up I was soo glad it was a dream but it did take me awhile to realize it was all a dream.
maybe you could try not thinking about the dream and then your lesson might turn out good

Not really a dream, but it is a wacky skating moment. The day before I was taking the MCAT a second time, I had a lesson with my coach. I had been studying physics for some time, and nothing about kinematics made any sense to me. I had learned it a year ago, it didn't make sense then, and it didn't make sense when I was relearning it for the MCAT. So we were working on waltz jumps, and she said that every jump has a vertical and horizantal part. And then, for some reason, everything I had been trying to learn about 2-D kinematics for a year made sense, I just needed my coach to tell me about vertical and horizontal. I to skating for making me finally understand physics.

One time (before I had ever tested) I dreamed that I was taking the Pre-Bronze MIF test. I was doing the alternating three turns, but the judges were on the ice, inspecting my tracings like they would have done in a figures test! Eek! That's all I recall of that dream.

Another time, I dreamed that I was on the ice, and my coach had me working on mohawks. However, my skates somehow didn't have blades on them, and each time I went to stroke, I felt the whole flat of my boot sole on the ice. Very odd!! (Probably relates to my general mohawk anxiety, especially the faster I'm going!)

As long as you remember exactly what you did to fix each of those 3 elements, you should be fine! Tell your coach how you fixed each one, and ask him/her to remind you next time if you forget and screw them up.
Besides, it's good to screw up a lot in your lessons; you get more for your coaching dollar! If you nail everything the first time, you don't get any technique tips from your coach, LOL!

I've lived your dream! On a regular basis too....I think I get coachitis. I've finally learned to cross my leg in the backspin, last week, and I'm not showing my coach. This is no laughing matter, I'm serious! If you only live this issue in your dreams thank your lucky stars. =-) Have you guys ever dreamed that your falling in a dream? I have this reoccuring dream of jumping, falling, and crashing into the rink barrier. Thank goodness THIS hasn't happended YET. I'm sure it's only a matter of time! Oh, write your fixes down. I find this makes them stick in my head. Good luck. =-)

I had a dream once where I was doing perfect triple loops and double axels. I didn't want to wake up.

I've had dreams about double axels and woke up thinking "that was easy". While skating for real, I'm more afraid of landing lutzes than attempting axels.

Ugh, ANOTHER skating nightmare last night - what's with the anxiety?!!?!

Last night I had a dream that I was going to my group lesson and I kept having to retie my skates...if I tried to do anything, even basic forward stroking I'd fall over because my skate was completely undone. So I kept tying it tighter and tighter and my regular coach was there and he and my group coach couldn't figure out why I kept sitting on the ice instead of taking the class but I kept trying to explain that I couldn't skate because my boot wouldn't stay tied. I was getting so frustrated and I started crying because my friend was learning all this cool stuff and I couldn't even try it because my skate wouldn't stay on.

What on earth is going on in my brain?!?! Two bad skating dreams in a row? My lesson is tonight - this should be interesting to say the least.
