Question for the ladies... NuBra?
Has anyone ever tried the NuBra (www.nubra.com)? My dressmaker recommended these, but I can't for the life of me fathom how they stay on! LOL!

I was curious so I did some reading on the application and removal. Apparently the bra itself is covered in adhesive which is why you have to store it in the special containers so it doesn't dry out and may explain why you have a limited number of "wears."
I've used the Victoria Secret strapless, backless bras (not for skating yet) and those things hold. The times I've used them I was very glad that I was intoxicated and don't remember having to pull the tape off.

I've tried the adhesive bras and IMHO they give you no support when you jump- you are "bouncing" all over the place. Now, I'm cup heavy so I don't know how it would fit you, but be forewarned, it hurts like hell to get these things off!

I'm not sure what kind of outfit you are wearing, but when I danced my favorite bra was a convertable bra I bought at Dillards (Nordstrom, maybe even VS might have them).
It hooked around the waste and then ran up your ribcage to the cups- so it was completely backless. If you are not well endowed, it will hold like that, larger it might have some issues. It also had straps which could be haltered, regular, criss cross, or one shoulder, depending on the leotard. This bra was worn in practice and competition everyday for 4 years and was worth every penny of the $50 it cost. After 3 years the wires poked through and I just pulled them out. I actually still have it- good stuff!

My dilemma with my dress is that the sleeves are chiffon, so if the strap slips you will see it. I could add little loops to the shoulders to hold them in place, but I also would prefer not to have any bulk from any straps because the dress material is white and they will show through.

Not NuBra but VS
I bought the Victoria's Secret strapless, backless and used it for my November competition, that thing is great! It only lasts 10 times. There's a more expensive one that's more like NuBra. I'm pretty small boobed so I don't know how it works if you have bigger ones...

I like buying cheapo bras for the padding, cut them up and sew them into the costume(sew them into the lining). (I can get those for a buck, whereas if I buy proper parts from the shop it was 8 bucks so just get whatever is cheaper for you) That usually works if you are small boobed (like me haha)
Or, I've worn strapless bras if it fits the costume... if you are only scared of straps falling off then just do a cross back with them. Hmmm hope something here helps lol

For the more endowed among us (
![]() ![]() If you don't have one on hand which may have seen better days but is still OK, then just buy the absolute cheapest smooth-fabric contour bra which has cups which fit properly (doesn't matter about the back or the straps as you cut these off anyway). I'm a DD+ cup and have done this several times both for myself and for friends, and it's worked a treat every time. Last edited by aussieskater; 02-02-2007 at 12:53 AM. Reason: oops... |

I second the suggestion of clear plastic straps - impossible to see at a distance, and keep the bra in place a treat. I learnt the hard way not to wear, in competition, a strapless bra that is three sizes too big without the plastic straps..... (I have since replaced it with one that fits, but even still!).
Do you absolutely need to wear a bra, or could you get away with just those flower-shaped doofuses that protect your nipples?

Thanks everyone for your ideas. I might look into clear straps, but that still doesn't solve the problem of bulk from the straps themselves. I cannot use cross-back straps for security because my dress has a V neck and a V back.
MrsRedboots, I wanted to wear a bra rather than those flower-shaped thingies in order to create shape that I don't have naturally. ![]() |

I've worn teh NuBra and loved it - but it was for dresses for events that were backless - I dont know how great it would be when doing anything like jumping in.
When I competed in gymnastics, our team special ordered both nude full body leos you could wear underneath your leotard and nude color sports bras. These both would work great since the full-body leo you can wear any bra underneath then put the dress on top. |

Sorry I forgot to add that you can buy the nude leotards and bra from GK

Thanks for the tip! Unfortunately, the neckline of my dress doesn't allow for a nude leotard underneath -- unless I wanted the nude leo to show, which I don't!
![]() I think I am going to try out the NuBra. I will practice in it and report back my results! |
