The Best of Skatingforums.com

Just thought we could have a little online memorial to skatingforums before it goes offline.

After the 2006 (?) Olympics, an internet troll invasion happened. They all had usernames that were mass murderers or serial killers and their posts were just nasty.

I had never seen anything like that before and man, was I impressed by the response from the moderation team. Kestral, Adrian, and flippet shut down the attack in no time flat.

I was blown away by their efforts and that's when I volunteered to be a mod.

This has been the BEST place to learn about the world of adult skating. Had NO CLUE it even existed (adults can compete? adults can take private lessons? adults can take tests?) and being here inspired me to get onto the ice (after meaning to do so since childhood and only having done so a tiny bit). It's been so supportive and chock full of information. . . hopefully we can recreate that atmosphere somewhere else (probably FSU?).

I agree, adult skating all the way. Also nicked a ton of exercises from here actually. Met some new friends, some people who make my blood boil, is all good man.

I remember the serial killers and fascist dictators. I had to make a list on notepad and transfer everything into the mod console so I could whack them down as fast as I could.

I'm really sorry to hear this place is going away. It's been the only skating forum that I've followed, none of the others felt at all like places I wanted to be. I was always really glad to be able to be a part of keeping it that way.

You were my hero that day- taking names, talking tough and "whacking them."

Most people don't know your name, Kestral, because you don't post. Yet, you've quietly handled many troll attacks, tons of spammers, guiding other mods and even dealing with difficult members.

You did a great job as a moderator and it was appreciated.

One last "thank you" to Flippet, who showed me the ropes of moderating and was always a voice of reason among the yelling, lol. She also banned spammers and cleaned up after them on a regular basis. Plus, she was always fun to talk to online.

Thanks very much Flippet!

Sunday, 29 Aug 10, skatingforums.com will be replaced with the site currently accessible at figureskatingforums.net. In order to move forward with this change we ask that you register at the new site as soon as possible because we cannot transfer registrations. Some of the "old" posts will be available on the new site as searchable, indexed text, most notably the On Ice forum. As we move on, please thank Adrian for having supported this community for so many years.
