Skate vs. Shoe Size

I wonder if there's differences in adult and children's shoe/skate sizing.
We often say that skates run a size smaller than street shoes, but I wonder it that's not true for adults?

How much difference is there between your skate size and your shoe size?
One size, same size, etc.

Your gender, age and skate brand would be helpful as well.

I'll tally the results next month.

I have riedells, size 5.5. My street shoes are somewhere between a 7.5 and 8. So that is about 2 sizes.

I think it depends on the boot manufacturer - my boots are about the same size as my street shoes - but that varies also - somewhere between a 9 and a 10. My skates are

Left foot = 8 1/2
Right foot = 9

SP Teri Dance boot - split length "stock" boots.

Shoe size: mostly 10 W, very rarely 9.5 W
Skate size: 8.5, split width (C heel, D ball)

I did have a little punching out in the toes, so 9 would perhaps work, too

They are custom made Harlicks, so I really don't know the exact size.

Two years ago I wore 10 shoes and 8 skates. My feet actually shrunk half a size. My fitter was shocked. I'm hoping my feet have stayed the same as I need new boots again!

Well my skates are the same size as my shoe size now (UK 6), but when I bought them just over a year ago, they were a size bigger than my shoe size lol - then a 5.

EDIT: Sorry: didn't mention:

I said I don't know because I didn't ask Don what size my custom Klingbeils are. Before these I had SPTeri 8 and wore shoe size 9 1/2. AA/AAA smaller in the heel. This was from a fitter that put everyone in super tight skates, I wish I'd gotten them a little bigger. After my pregnancies I was glad for the excuse to get new skates even though those weren't worn out - my feet grew a half shoe size.

Skate Size: 6 D
Shoe Size: Women's 6 1/2 or boys' 5-5 1/2. Usually better off in boys' sneakers as they run wider.

When I wore Riedells (1993-1998 or so) I wore a 5 1/2 C. I know their sizing has changed since then to be closer to shoe sizes, but most of my students who wear Riedells go a size smaller than their shoes, and that's with the extra 1/2 our pro shop gives kids as growing room.

Skates: Riedell Gold Stars (#375)

Skate size: Currently 7-1/2 and too loose - probably should be 7
Shoe size : 8

My older Riedell Gold Stars (purchased 8/2002) were also a 7-1/2 and fit well, although very stiff and difficult to break in. These new skates (9/2007) appear to be larger and softer than the old ones. D@#%&d inconvenient.

Jackson's tend to be 1 to 1.5 sizes smaller than your typical street shoe. I've noticed this for both the men's and women's sizes. Not sure about kids though. Most kids in this area wear Riedell or Klingbeil. I've only seen Jacksons on 16 year olds on up.

I'm always a skate oddity. My shoes can go anywhere from women's 4 to 6 and my skates used to be Reidell 3 and a half KIDS...yup, kids! And they fit like a dream. My Jacksons are 3 and a half adults.

The Riedell rentals (softec style) where I work are a size smaller than street shoe size for women and girls. They are truer to size for men and boys.

Riedell skates

In street shoes I wear a size 8...sometimes even an 8.5 (in womens), However, for ice skates its a whooole different story. In riedell skates I wear a size 6.5 wide.

Mid-twenties
Riedells D width size 4
Risport B width size 245 ( I suspect if I went C width I could go 235-240 but that I have yet to test)
Street Shoe Size: 6-7.5 (depends on the width of the shoe, the narrower the fit the larger I have to go)

Skates :size 7 Wide
brand: Graf Galaxy
street size: 8 - 8.5 Australian sizing
Age: 48
gender: female

When I started back skating I bought some Jacksons, and worked out the size best I could via various internet charts. Ended up buying something like a 9 or 9.5, waaay too long.
