I agree. Push your heel way down in the boot while tying them, and for heaven's sake, HEAT MOLD YOUR BOOTS ALREADY!

I've worn them for maybe four hours thus far. Are you sure it's not too soon?

Ive really been lagging behind in my skating. I try to skate everyday, but in addition to my normal coursework, I'm prepping for grad school. My first choice is Yale, and the application process is a class in and of itself...

Too soon to heat mold? Definitely not; in my experience you usually get the boots heat molded BEFORE you even skate in them. It makes a huge difference.

what is "to punch out"?
I have Sp teri CL and the are new with Phatom special blades.
I've been skating in them for two weeks now. Last week my coach told me to
put some surgical spirit in them, and they will break in faster. Has anyone tried to do this before?
My feet felt better doing this, they didn't hurt as much.

Punch-out is just a shoe maker, or shoe modification terminology .... if you got a bone or something that protrudes out a bit on your foot, and your foot feels uncomfortable because the boot isn't shaped to accommodate that bump on your foot.....then the shoe guy just finds out roughly where your boot needs to be expanded out a bit. They do stuff like heat up the boot a little in that particcular area to make the material more pliable then shove some kind of block or whatever on the inside to push that part of the boot out a bit. Then next time you wear your boot, you'll feel comfortable because the boot won't be squashing that protruding bone in your foot anymore.

But if you got heat moldable boots, you don't need to go through the above procedure.

Not always true. Larger bumps like bunions on my 50 year old feet need extra room that heat molding does not create.

Well....I've managed to kick the tail of the blade right through the end of the guards. They have nifty little holes in them now. I suppose it doesn't matter if you have the one-piece guards, but with two-piece guards, I don't recommend it, unless you like replacing guards on a regular basis!

Re: heat-molding...yes, do this right away. Re: punching, you can wait a little bit, to see where you need it.

Yes, I got my boots heat-molded before ever wearing them on the ice. The point is to avoid having to suffer, not to get relief after you've already suffered, LOL!

My fitter refused to even mount the blades on my skates until they were heat molded. I don't see the point in waiting - they make them heat moldable for a reason.
