My skating order was swapped from second to fourth (after the second warmup). Needless to say, I was in tears and really freaked out. I have been really sick for like three weeks, throwing up after skating and really out of breath. I was ready to withdraw last week, but I started feeling better Saturday and decided I would skate. And then because my music is all screwed up, I might not be able to?

Eventually, we got it to work with the help of Lisa whose last name I can't remember (5th in Champ Masters) and a young girl from the club. I have no idea where my backup CD is - it was in a CD book that should've been in my skating bag. I couldn't find it anywhere when I returned to where I was staying. Grrrrrrr.

When I finally got out to skate: I did a good lutz-loop, loop (in place of axel), flip, spirals were OK, messed up a solo layback, left out half my footwork, RBI-3/change edge/mohawk salchow, step forward/RFI toe loop (which I made up Saturday since my program wasn't done!) and messed up the sit-change which ended up being just a terrible sit spin. But I survived!!!

My group was half forumites which rocked, but I'll let them share their own experiences.
I spoke with vesperholly right after her skate and I couldn't say enough about how impressed I was with her program so I thought I'd continue right here. Her description of her elements doesn't do her justice. I guess the best way to put it was that it was readily apparent that she's a skater working on her senior moves in the field. Her stroking was very smooth and efficient. She has a wonderful run of edge and there isn't a toe-pick scrape to be heard in the building when she's skating. Years down the road I hope to be able to have that type of quality. You were great, Jocelyn!!

I wasn't able to see very much of the silver men's event (only the warm-up and a couple of the competitive skates) because I had promised a friend I would put her on the ice and she was on the other ice surface of the same time. However, what I did see of the event was very good. I'm also delighted to hear about Mike Finley. He looked terrific.

I totally agree.

I had seen him skate at Hayden many times a few years back and he was a great skater and a lot of fun to talk with..

I wish I had 10% of his ability!

Thanks! Yeah, you guys can vouch for my axel! I did 2 in the warm-up and 4 in the practice that morning, so who knows? Also, there was a really long wait, and I was last. When I got out there, I realized my feet were frozen. Oh well. This was actually my 4th competition, and my 2nd sectionals. Oh well. Maybe AN will be better...

My 2 cents...

Hi All,

I had a really nice time this year at Sectionals even though I didn't get the placement I was looking for and thus will not be going to Chicago. Even though I had a fall on my 2-loop and stepped out of my axel I felt pretty good about my program - which is a totally unexpected but very welcome feeling to have:]

Congrats to Jason Spicer on his 4th place finish - he really deserved it and he's inspired me to practice harder in preparation for next season. Congrats also to all my skating forum buddies - all I can say is I'm glad I didn't have to judge the Silver Men's Event, from my point of view you all were 'worthy':]

Go dcden for qualifying through in Championship Gold Men - hope you kick some arse in Chicago!

Sorry I missed Stormy and Vesper's programs (damn the intractable airline schedule!). But glad to hear you guys both skated well!

And I must say I loved all of the pair's drama - I hope all of the teams left feeling positive about the event?

-Cheers

I can definitely can vouch for badaxel that she had some baaaaaaad (as in "bad @$$ good") axels at Aviator. (We were all wondering "Bad axel? What's wrong with it? It's cleanly landed!" ) Too bad I didn't have my cell phone out so I can take a video of it.

I plan on coming back to NYC this December again (if I don't have any more emergency trips to NYC again, then it will be SOONER!!!) and hopefully we'll have another skatingforum meetup so I can finally put that axel on video!!!

dcden qualifying? WOO HOO!!! Go Dennis!!! (I'm assuming that it's b/c of the fill-up rules b/c Midwestern only has 3 guys competing? If so, my fellow "Team JKo" teammate, Gary K., qualifies too!!! YAAAAY!!! )

You guys skated at Aviator during your last NYC trip? Coolness! I skated there for about 6 months until my coach had to move to Delaware, but I would definitely be up to going out there again if there will be a forums meetup there! It's a gorgeous rink.

Ahhh, what a weekend! First and foremost, I had a LOT of fun, and it was so great seeing NoVa, LoopLoop, Vesperholly, mskater and dcden again! And meeting Hannaclear and badaxel! Badaxel, thanks for coming up to me in the locker room to introduce yourself! I wasn't watching the other skaters in my group so I may not have know who you were otherwise. It was great to meet you and we'll have fun in Chicago!!

I was very happy with my program (Silver I). I landed an axel in the warm up and heard my friend Lisa cheering for it and that really gave me a boost. I landed it clean in the program and I was really happy....first axel tried and landed in competition! I was 4th and thrilled with that.

SO SO SO looking forward to AN and to seeing everyone again!

No way, I LOVE the music and I would've been so disappointed to not skate to it. The referee asked if I wanted to skate to someone else's music or to silence ... nooo! I'm definitely keeping it for next year.

*giant blush* Thanks! You're closer than you think, Frank.

Is Jason Spicer on the boards? I met him Saturday and he's a doll, so funny and friendly. I was thrilled to see him skate so well and medal - he was extremely excited and it was contagious!

(((mskater))) You better get your back nice and healed so you can come back next year and skate great! We missed you on Sunday - stinkin' planes.

Sorry I couldn't come and see the competition, but I was extremely grateful to some of my fellow Lake Placid Adult week buds who stopped by yesterday and gave me a complete debriefing of the competition.

Looking forward to seeing many you next year at Lake Placid from the other side of the registration table!

I didn't know he said that! What a depressing thought, to skate to silence! I am so happy they got the iPod working. That's such fun and unique music and I'm glad you're keeping it!!

Placements aren't mandatory, but inquiring minds want to know!
a little gossip might be nice too!
OK, OK. I posted the pairs results already and I don't know any other results except a few others (because I was in them).

For Men's Interp, David Lecrenski won with a great Superman routine. David - if you're out there, great job! I was waiting for the spiral position with both your hands out in front ... did I miss it? (Sorry, I'm a closet choreographer.) In 2nd place was Rob L. with a medley of classic rock songs that he really performed well to. I was in third with my "Bust a Move" program, which needs a lot of work, but is kinda fun to do.

In Silver Compulsory moves I tied for 3rd with Meghan (don't know her last name), who I got to meet for the first time, which was nice. Julie something-or-other won. She's a great skater and will surely be in gold soon. The other guy in the group was in 2nd.

The very same Julie also won Silver Jumps. I came in 3rd there, too. Someone named Dale was in 2nd. It'd be nice if I knew people's names, huh? Julie did a very nice, floaty flip and loop, then did an axel/toe for the combo. She had a turn between the two jumps, but it was pretty good. I also did axel/toe and two-footed the axel, but it was the best one I've done in competition in a long time, so I'll take it (for now).

OK, enough with the big marquee events. On to Championship Pairs. LOL OK, I missed everyone before me because I was hiding. Stephen and Marna were first and I'm sure they did a great job. I saw their program 3 weeks ago in Virginia and I really like it. Nice music that they relate to well, interesting connecitons, very good unison and the best spins in the event.

Cheng and Barry were next - I saw the very end of their skate, which I think is the same program they did last year at Nationals, which I have seen on DVD and like very much. Lots of energy and very solid skating. I think I saw a good twist lift, but I was a little spazzed out waiting for our warm-up to begin.

On the 6-minute warm-up everything went well. We missed our first throw axel attempt, but then did 2 good ones to get our confidence up. Everything else was pretty solid.

For our skate we opened well with a good death spiral, then a solid throw axel. The platter lift started well, but I broke the position about 1 turn too early. We both messed up the axels - me more so. Spins and spiral sequence were good - big kudos to Tara for spinning my way, and better than I do no less. Throw loop and loop lift were good - was the first time I've been able to turn that 2nd lift two times in competition. Yeah for me. Then of course I proceeded to almost fall stepping out of it - got my foot stuck in the ice or something and almost put my hand down, but I don't think I did. Then the flip/loops were fine, twist lift was fine and pair spin was good. Ta da!

Andrea and Lee were next, and I missed most of it, but am looking forward to getting to see it soon. From what I saw it looked like a solid skate - great footwork, nice platter lift, good speed and power.

I already posted about Kim and David's great skate, which I am also looking forward to watching again on DVD. And by the way, I have had their music in my head all weekend.

And that's all the news fit to print, uh, type.

Tim

That would be Julie Pietrawski (sp?) from UDel. I was very surprised to see her in Silver again since she won Silver I at ANs last year, I would've expected an ANs winner to move up. She has a solid axel and good spins, and was second in Silver I FS to Stephanie Frangules. (I swear that this is the same Stephanie I competed against in 2004, she looks like the same person in my photos, but the last names are different.)

The team event was TOTALLY fun. Vesperholly, Stormy, Marna, and I were on a team and it was a blast. We had 3 silver skaters, a Gold, and a Masters Senior skater.

The warmup was totally bizarre - everyone warmed up stroking only for exactly one minute, and then each element was warmed up and competed separately. Story did a solid powerful lutz/loop. Marna did both an Ina Bauer and a really cool sit/change combo that included a change of edge and a pancake in it - I was impressed. Vesperholly did a flying camel - she has great speed in it. I did the axel and now I know that I can do them without all the pre-cursor jumps and long warmup period Someone commented that it was a really fun event as it reminded us of why we were all there in the first place.

And my favorite picture will be of the backs of our team shirts that Vesperholly designed with our team name: Shut Up and Skate. I WILL be wearing the shirt at the rink!

Congrats to all, and thanks for the reports! Wish I could've been there too. I'll be in Chicago to watch adult natls. on Friday of the competition. What's with the "drama" at the Ballston rink? I'll be up to visit my older sister in the area in 2 weeks and hope to skate at that new rink again (and avoid the bad sessions).

Congratulations, one and all!

I do hope I'm going to be seeing some of these superb programmes at the Mountain Cup?????

NoVaStephen, I'm trying to work on my own flexibility - what sort of "sets" do you do at the gym - and in front of the telly?
