Also, something I thought of today.....for those flying in and renting a car...bring cash for tolls! You'll need probably at least $5.00, it's $3.00 just to get out of the airport. I say this because I am the type of person who NEVER has cash on me and I'd be really stuck if I didn't know about the Boston tolls!

Also, the Colonial club ice is COMPLETELY AVAILABLE to us for walk on, it's NOT contract only. This came directly from the co-chair to me. I know it is not ideal, but this way you won't have to go all over the state to find ice. There are sessions from 1 PM until 6:45 in the evening. It's not like there's NO practice ice at the rink on Friday, it's just not dedicated completely to us. It's honestly better than nothing.

I really hate to quibble with you, lovepairs, but I sort of take offense to the "princess" mention, especially at NESC. That rink is near and dear to my heart and the kids that skate there are really great. It's not really fair to stereotype like that.

I know people are frustrated with the situation, but maybe we should all take a step back, take a deep breath, and concentrate on skating and preparing for the competition. Kvetching on here isn't going to do any of us any good at this point.

I spoke with Kim Sailer yesterday, who is competing in Masters Pairs and Masters Ladies, and she said she spoke with Colonial and all that Friday walk-on ice is for Standard-Track tests passed ONLY. They told her they weren't accepting Adult-Track tests. Her pairs partner has not passed any Standard Track tests, so it's an issue for her Pairs practice, though not her singles practice.

Didn't know if you all had heard this or already discussed this with Colonial, but just wanted to let you all know about it if you didn't already. You all may want to double-check.

(all this is making me glad I'm inthe Midwest section!)

Okay this doesn't effect me at all, I'm just nosy...but WHAT KIND OF A POLICY IS THAT? WHat could the rational for that possibly be. So like someone like me who passed a standard pre-pre (but can't do more than a waltz jump) could skate but not an adult who passed adult gold? What are they trying to achieve???? That just does not make ANY sense to me at all.

It's probably just some club policy. All clubs have a variety of rules, such as the one someone mentioned earlier where you have to present your USFSA ID card.

Stormy, let's take a deep breath together, okay? One of the problems with email and forums like this is that you don't have any inflection, or tonation to go along with the writing. I meant absolutely nothing sarcastic, frustrated, or exasperated when I used the term "princesses." It's just a short-hand, so everyone would know what I meant--the long hand meaning "a session filled with little kids." That's all, please take no offense.

I'm not frustrated at all at this point and am really looking forward to the competition. Again, look forward to meeting you!

Best,
Lovepairs

Practice Ice question

I received some emails (as I'm sure many of the other Easterns competitors did) over the weekend from Cheryl stating something along the lines of "disregard the previous practice schedule; a new schedule will be posted shortly". But then I never got a follow-up email about an updated schedule. THe one currently posted on the Easterns website appears to be the same as the one I originally got from CHeryl.

Does anyone know if the schedule still being worked out, or are we to assume the one on the website is current and final?

THanks to anyone who can provide some help.

Dennis

The one on the website now is different from that of last week's.
To make room for the 25-minute official pairs practice, the original practice session denoted as P4 has been shifted to the Rink 3 schedule.

That is, originally:
P1-P4 were on Rink 1 on Sat. from 9-10am, in 15-minute increments.
Now, only P1-P3 are on Rink 1 on Sat from 9:05-10am.
And Rink 3's scheudle starts as P4 at 6am.
http://www.colonialfsc.com/adultsect...CIAL022307.pdf

Hope that makes some sense.

So then only the unofficial practice schedule was changed? It was the official practice schedule that I was looking at, and that seemed unchanged from last week.

So, Nova, are you saying that the 25minute unofficial pairs practice has moved off of Rink#1, which doesn't make sense at all since the pairs are competing on Rink#1???

Me too, though it's REALLY surprising because there are quite a few adults that are members of this club. Though it seems they weren't consulted for their opinions.

Hmmm? I wonder if my pre-prelim moves passed from 2001 would count? (Not that it impacts me, of course, I'm way on the other coast...)

Good luck to all you guys going to Sectionals this weekend!!! I'll be watching you guys from the Ice Channel.

Nope; was just pointing out that the practice sessions have been redesignated.
Rink 1 initially had 4 sessions; now it just has 3, including the 25-minute 9:35am session for pairs.

TIm: Call them or e-mail the co chair, why don't ya? That way you get it straight from the source. Stop randomly PMing people for info too, please...I know at least I'd appreciate that.

I spoke with Cheryl earlier (to confirm my practice sessions); they are allowing a max of 15 skaters on each session.

And poor Cheryl; the woman who was helping her is unavailable (I forget why), and she was sick last week. I know, that falls under the "not my problem" column, but I feel just a bit of compassion for her.

Colonial can bid for it every year if they want, but if this event truly turns out to be unacceptable for the adult skaters, because of things such as the lack of practice ice, rink size, ect...then it's up to us to put pressure on the USFS not to accept their bid. I recall hearing that a similar thing happened to a club that hosted AN in California, and I don't think we'll be seeing AN back in Dallas anytime soon either.

I was under the impression that this board was a site for exchanging information with one another? Yes? No? I received a lot of information from other skaters, especially from Stormy, that saved me time from making several phone calls and just being dumped into voice mails. Thanks Stormy and thanks Nova for all of your help thus far!

Let's hope the North Jersey Figure Skating Club (in Wayne, NJ) gets it right next year.

I thought so too, I never had any problem before. I guess this kind of thing is not accepted in this board. Im very sorry to inconvinience you Stormy.

Here's the problem with relying on info from people on a discussion board: sometimes it's wrong or out of date. It's like not going to the rule book and just asking the people online. If you want the definitive, accurate answer, go directly to the contact listed on the announcement. And not everyone who is known to be "local" to the comp wants to be a personal answering service. It's just annoying to keep getting PMs and read postings asking for info that could very easily be ascertained from the announcement or host club website.

And while I'm in crank mode, what's with all the anger and b****ing? Yeah, this competition hasn't been the most well-run adult comp in the world, but the level of anger and vitrol has been disproportional, in my opinion. Practice ice is expensive -- it always is. Every club that runs a comp uses that source of income to make the competition profitable. This is a little more than most, but if you're willing to spend $800 on a pair of skates, have a custom costume made and employ 2-3 coaches, what's the big deal about the practice ice costing you $30 more than usual? Competing is expensive. It sucks, but that's the reality of the situation. And practice ice time is always tight at most competitions. If the rink doesn't want to open up a block of time for adult figure skaters, that's their perogative, even if it makes no sense to us. All the agitating and kvetching isn't really presenting a favorable picture of adult skaters. We can't just stamp our feet and yell, "RESPECT US" and expect to get respect. That's not how the adult skating program gained its current stature. We garnered respect over time with our firm, but polite, work-within-the-system, tenacity. You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.

I knew you were going to comment, since its on me. Whether it would be good or bad, you somehow turn it into me looking like an a*s.
Listen, I figured since everybody does it and it somewhat saves time. Stormy appeared to know a lot of information so I kindly asked her.
Im sure if one of your buddies like contacted you for question, Im sure you wont be annoyed.

Wouldnt it be nice if there would be a day when you arent in crank mode? Can you be at least supportive & nice towards me and other people FOR ONCE? Because Im not a bad person and would like to extend my hand to you as a friend in skating.
