Reference Links for Skaters and Coaches
Thought I'd start a thread to hang onto all those links we reference occasionally.
Here are some threads about the basics: Advice for Buying Ice Skates http://www.skatingforums.com/showthread.php?t=22496 Buying Used Skates http://www.skatingforums.com/showthread.php?t=31348 How to take care of Ice Skates? http://www.skatingforums.com/showthread.php?t=20328 Blade Sharpening Information/FAQ http://www.skatingforums.com/showthread.php?t=17895 Off-Ice Training Resources and Techniques http://www.skatingforums.com/showthread.php?t=28109

Reference Links for Skaters and Coaches
This is a pretty comprehensive site:
http://home.pacbell.net/anamga/questions.html (Thanks, FSWer) Don Korte's site has great reference information that's up-to-date as well as an "Adult Focus" section. www.sk8stuff.com This LINK has a copy of the online version of Maribel Vinson-Owen's "The Fun of Figure Skating" book. It's a great intro to skating, especially if you're interested in learning the basic Figures. (Although, I will say the actual book, with the photographs, is much more helpful. I borrowed it from the Library.) When "Compulsory Figures" were eliminated from competitions, the USFSA removed that section of their Rulebook as well. It is now available from the USFSA website here: http://www.usfsa.org/Content/Compuls...es%20Rules.pdf

Thanks for the sticky, ISk8NYC!
Here's the link to the order form for the 2006-2007 USFS rule book (I don't think this is on the NEICC's page of quick USFS links, and it's always the one thing I have trouble finding each year on the USFS web page, even when I search the page using Google.) Note: the above link is for the order form for the 2006-2007 rule book. (I don't know if USFS updates the link each membership year or whether the link will be different in future years.) Technical Information (USFS and ISU) that affects adult skating is here:

At some point, I'll add onto this list, but this is an interesting article Mr. Edge wrote about adult skaters' boot/blade needs.

Compulsory Figures
This LINK has a copy of the online version of Maribel Vinson-Owen's "The Fun of Figure Skating" book.
It's a great intro to skating, especially if you're interested in learning the basic Figures. (Although, I will say the actual book, with the photographs, is much more helpful. I borrowed it from the Library.) About.com has an excellent article about figures and patch sessions. http://figureskating.about.com/od/hi.../a/figures.htm When "Compulsory Figures" were eliminated from competitions, the USFSA removed that section of their Rulebook as well. It is still available (no charge AFAIK) from the USFSA via email request - it's sent as a PDF document. (Dalean Greenlee (dgreenlee at usfsa dot org) was the person who sent my copy. ETA: Renatele has a copy online if you wish to download it directly. (See below) Quote:

Jo Anne Schneider Farris, who is the About.com figure skating expert, has been posting a weekly "How to..." article on icenetwork.com. Worth checking out - they're nicely laid out and clearly written.
This link is to the latest article, called "Camel Spins" (1/18/2008) http://web.icenetwork.com/news/artic...&vkey=ice_news There doesn't appear to be an index to all of the articles, but there is a navigation bar on the right of the linked page that will access the earlier articles. ETA: Jo Ann has an article index on her own site, www.jumpspin.com. http://www.jumpspin.com/fs101/

Chin-gow! There are a lot of really good links here! I'm putting together a site of my own right now-http://www.geocities.com/deannathegeek. It's still under construction, but I'm hoping to put together a good comprehensive skating reference. (There are also computer and parenting sections-my website, so why not?)
