Bummer. Good luck this weekend, but watch out for NoVa Sk8r and LoopLoop. I hear they have goons.

I'm not worried about Hershey. I have a secret weapon . And thanks for the good luck wishes.

And Amen, those gold moves are,....well, I'll be darned if I can come up with the right word but suffice it to say that I'll be asking the adult committee to remove the requirement that one must pass the equivalent moves before one can pass the freestyle. I grandfathered into the Silver Free style as it was.

Did you do pairs at Nationals? Anyway, good luck at the Peach Classic.

Good luck getting anyone on the Adult Committee to agree with you. They all seem to think the moves are wonderful for adult skating. I share your opinion that they shouldn't be mandatory for adults. If there's an Adult Committee meeting at Peach, I'll express the opinion out loud and in person.

We don't skate pairs at AN. My partner hasn't been able to afford the travel and related expenses, so we stick to "long weekend" type of competitions. When we first started skating together, we agreed that nobody was bankrolling anybody else's skating. IOW, I'm not buying myself a partner. At any given time, one of us might be the "lowest common denomiator," and that's what we'll work with to keep things equitable.

Plus, we suck.

Retry: No good today, only bad--the coolers were down at the rink, so no skating, and I found out when I got there, so I couldn't check other rinks. I guess I'll just have to skate more on Saturday.

I'm from nearby Virginia Beach and I think we learned our lesson last year with Isabel! Please, I do not need another hurricane knocking on my front door!

Finally, finally, FINALLY got to the rink today and it was empty for the one of the reasons jenlyon gave- almost all of our skaters are at Hershey!
It took awhile to get going but here it is:
Pass: Going for the loop with speed! Actually trying to get the feel of doing the loop right out of landing a half- lutz, which I'd like to try for my program!

Retry:
The toe -loop toe loop combo in the new set up- it still feels awkward!
Backscratch is slowly coming back, but it made a dissapearing act around the time I was at camp in NJ!

Moves- don't even ask!

Back on the ice!

Back on the ice after ten days off - it did feel weird at first, but after five minutes, back to normal.

Pass: Robert and I spent most of the session working on our Free Dance, with both of us forgetting the steps and not being able to make certain bits work, but that was to be expected after a long break and with the dance just at the beginning of itself. By the end of the session, we did an extremely decent run-through to the music, so I'm pleased. I was especially pleased with the fact that I put a back twizzle in - and can do it! Yeah!

We also did a Rhythm Blues when someone put the music on, and, I may be wrong, but I think it was good.

Retry: Just trying to remember the steps, and fit them back into the music! But we did in the end. The twizzle is new and, after it, I want to do a "sink-back" into Robert's arms, so that he is supporting me. At the moment he will stand still on the ice while this happens, which I'm sure is wrong, as it feels as though I grind to a halt. Our coach will have to show us what to do tomorrow.

Still masses to practice, but I do think we have a dance!

Very amused to note that one of our adult men, whose regular partner is away most of this month, was having a lesson partnering someone else. We have christened him "Faithless One", which made both him and his "new" partner laugh, although they stressed it was only a temporary pairing.

It has cooled off today--only in the low 80's as opposed to the mid 90's we've been having, so it actually felt like an ice rink today--it was chilly!

Pass: I did a scratch spin that was centered and I almost brought my free leg across--and of course my coach was with the other student! (it's group lesson today) I was able to do another for her, but it wasn't as centered. Also did a beautiful waltz-toe loop combination.

Retry: All the other scratch spin attempts! I also struggled with MIF edges--I couldn't get all the way back to the line. I need to either push harder or make the lobes smaller. I'm getting four across the ice, so I'm betting on the pushing harder, which will of course make the lobe bigger.....The joys of moves.

Pass:
  • Got some good tips from a fellow skater on how to correct this bad habit I had regarding stepping into the next FO3, particularly on my LFO3's. I'm gonna keep plugging on that and see where it goes...
  • NOW I'm starting to get those alt. back crossovers... albeit the speed is a bit slow, but it's steady and I feel like I'm doing them right for once.
Retry:
  • Not enough time to skate. The whole entire stinkin' day I feel behind schedule. (I overslept... or rather I didn't want to get up and out of bed early today b/c I'm really tired from this week.)
  • 5 step mohawk sucks today!!! I still have some hesitation on doing the first RFI mohawk at a good solid speed. Today I was really concentrating on getting the 4th and 5th step. I did those around the circle 'til I felt comfortable getting that curve on the 4th step... but after the 4th and 5th step, I sometimes have problems going to the 1st step in the next lobe... Never mind that I've been "hopping" my mohawk and I need to make it "tidy and neat."
  • Intro 3 into the power 3's are STILL too slow... at least too slow for my secondary coach's taste and probably my primary coach as well too. I'll keep building up the speed gradually though. I don't want to lose too much of the form and the consistency.
