Hi everyone. I wanted to know if anyone has contacted the travel agency listed in the Oberstdorf announcement. Before I contact these people, I want to know what to expect. Do they set up your accommodations for you, or just tell you what is available? Do you have to pay them for their services? I wish I could just call a hotel directly and make my reservation, but I have no clue what hotels there are near the rink! Thanks for your help!

I'm vaguely remembering finding information on line the last time I went to Oberstdorf, about 4 1/2 years ago. It's not all that big a town, and we walked everywhere. There are a number of little hotels off the main town square, and all of those are a pretty short walk to the rink, at least as far as I can remember.

After I get back from Portland, I'll try to find all my old information, if no on else has gotten anything. We did make our reservations ourselves, not through a travel agent, and it was quite easy.

Are you also going to the Mountain cup? I'm thinking of it and may rent an apt. for the week and go to the camp.

We haven't yet decided if we wish to share an apartment with anybody else this year, so if anybody would like the sitting-room bed at the Mountain Cup and camp (most of the apartments have a pull-out bed under the sofa in the sitting-room), now's the time to e-mail or PM me! The Résidence Le Diamant, where most people stay, isn't the cheapest, but it does have a swimming-pool, jacuzzi, gym, steam room and sauna for the residents' use, which is marvellous after a long day's skating!

Don't know about accommodation in Oberstdorf.

Could you please tell me what the apartments are like? Our Studio's here are 1 room, yet the announcement had a 6 person studio. Is it bunk beds?
I'd be interested in more info on the pull out. What size apt is it? Thanks

They have varied sizes of apartment, ranging from a studio (which would sleep a family, but not suited to a mixed group of friends) to one with several double bedrooms that can sleep 10 or more. We usually take a one-bedroom one, which has a double bedroom, then a living room with a sofa and a pull-out bed that pushes under the sofa during the day. At a pinch, you could sleep 2 people in the living-room, but it would be horrendously cramped, as there's not all that much storage space. But it's good to share costs - and cooking - with someone else.

There is also a kitchen unit, containing 2-hob electric cooker, oven/grill unit(sometimes not working very well), washing-up machine and fridge, plus the usual crockery, cutlery, glasses etc. And a couple of saucepans. And each apartment has a bathroom with small bathtub, shower & basin and separate loo in a room on its own.

I think it's well worth getting an apartment if you don't want to eat out all the time - the hotels are great for a couple of nights, but I, for one, can't digest restaurant cooking every night! Especially there, where the local specialities are all creamy, cheesy, potatoey things.... gorgeous, but......

Thanks - It sounds interesting. I like the idea of cooking in. My favorite Nationals are the ones in Lake Placid where we've rented a house for a week.

I would think that Oberstdorf would have a Tourist office that would keep a list of gasthauses and hotels.

As for hotels, it only has contact info for a travel agency, hence my original question at the top of this thread.

The agency listed in the announcement is the city tourist bureau (Kurverwaltung).

The web links I posted earlier are for the Kurverwaltung. In many German tourist cities/towns, the KVW will have information on local lodging and often be able to make reservations as needed.
