Q re skating in Sheffield, UK for adults

Hi

Are there any adults out there who skate at Sheffield?

I desperately want to get skating again but the last time I tried to go to Sheffield the times for adults were limited unless you wanted to skate on public sessions. The Academy most certainly wasn't geared towards adult skaters.

Do they have any clubs (dance or figure) or anything like that yet?

Any info greatfully received

Hi there. We do have adults on the morning patch sessions usually after 8.30ish when most of the younger kids have gone off to school. We also have an adult based session on a Thursday morning which starts at 10.00 on Pad 2.

We have recently started a session on a Tuesday evening from 7.00pm to 8.30 which is aimed at adults, no children Under 14 allowed on unless accompanied by a skating parent. We play dance music throughout the session although you can do either dance or free. This is run by the Club and the cost is £7.00 per guest skater or £5 as a club member. Club membership is £5 per year at present but you also have to be a member of NISA.

there are adult only lessons on monday nights, ive just signed up this saturday only its really popular so i think you might struggle to get on now. if you go to public sessions the family slots seem to be quieter an not full of lots of 14 y o chavs lol so might suit you better

Hi

Thanks for the info.

Unfortunately I have to work for my sins (currently in London but desperately trying to get work back 'home') so 8.30 or 10 am slots just aren't doable for me I don't know why gyms, ice rinks etc don't 'get' that quite a few adults have to work for a living. When I skated at Ally Pally I used to do the 6.30 - 8.30 am patch which was ideal.

Although I'd want to do the group lessons to begin with (I've not skated for a few years) I've got the 'old' Prelim Free (Elements, Field Moves and Free) and Bronze Compulsories (don't know what they are in the new test system) so the group lessons hopefully would only be a short term measure.

The Tuesday session sounds a good idea though I'd be looking for more sessions per week (I used to skate 5 days a week).

All I need to do is to get a job up here .....
