Plugging, waterproofing, and mounting

Hi

I've gotten some second hand skates that are relatively new. The thing is, I think it's not waterproofed. Risport skates need to be waterproofed right? And also, the screws are not put in properly, eg. two screws are in the slotted holes for the heels.

I'm thinking to waterproof the skates and remount the blades. Anyone knows if I can just use varnish? And for the plugging of the holes, do I use epoxy glue? Where do you get leather strips?

Note: There are no proshops for figure skates in SG. SG is smaller than NY I think. Just so you know.

This was answered on another thread, a while back:

with a marvelous photo by Bill S.

If your soles are leather, you want to apply a leather protectant. I'm not up on using varnish, I prefer Sno-Seal; others use other types.
