Hi guys

I am moving back to Singapore on 30 May. I shall be skating in the rink in Kallang back in Singapore. I am wondering if there is an age limit if I am going to join their recreational competitions, for freestyle skating. I am just wondering, as I have heard that there is an age limit of below 30 for competitions.

The coach back in Hong Kong was going to enter me for competition back 14 years ago, when I was about 20 years old. However, my other coach in Singapore and my mom pulled me out as they thought that my skating standard at that time was not high enough.

I do hope to try for competitions, as my cross toe spin has improved so much in the last two weeks, that the coach was so impressed by it, and called over the head coach. The head coach said that if I go for competitions, I will probably be getting extra marks under the International Judging System, due to the level of difficulty.

In the US, it depends on what level you're at and it's generally up to the figure skating club(s) hosting the competition. Some levels may have an age cap (such as juvenile), but an open event where skaters who are older than that may compete is typically offered too. And of course there are adult events, but at smaller local competitions they are not always offered or do not have enough people sign up to hold the events (but you never know...the largest group I competed in this past year other than Nationals was a small local competition that offered juvenile and below plus adult events, and we had 7 silver ladies competing).

It appears that they've changed directions from the ISI program to a USFSA competitive approach.

You're probably better off waiting until you get back home and start taking lessons. Also, buy a rulebook from the Singapore ISA so you have the rules in writing.
