I kept an online journal for the first year ( http://www.geocities.com/agedrinkrat/index.htm ), up until Nationals, but when readership fell to like 6 visits per month, I stopped publishing it - not worth the effort - though I do keep it up on my computer. If there was interest, I would upload it.

yep, I have one which I've kept for almost a year. I usually blog after every lesson, and find it useful when reading back through it to see where I've made progress.

Thanks for the reminder about your online journal, Chow! In addition to the skating stuff, I actually appreciated your blog about why you don't have an "English name". Maybe you can just answer that you have an Italian name: "Ciao"

LOL, I suppose I'm just lucky to not have a totally unpronounceable name!

But guess what... "ciao" probably looks just as unpronounceable to the Chinese as "xiao" looks to you

especially since many english speakers don't even know how to pronounce "ciao" (at least they don't know they know how to pronounce it) and write "chow" when they are trying to "speak Italian"

Ha ha. That will teach 'em to ask for your foreign name, LOL!
(BTW, that's pronounced "hsyao" with the third tone, right? )

And of course, there's the Cantonese tone marks...

Cheers,
jazzpants, whose Cantonese isn't that great... but her Mandarin REALLY sucks!!!

My main skating journal is at http://ilove2skate.livejournal.com/ , but I don't really update it much since I got pregnant and am not skating.

I also have a myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/sk8fabulous

well, yes if your "hsyao" is the same as my interpretation of "hsyao"
but the tone totally depends on which word you're talking about!

Nope, not on the computer. I do keep a personel notebook of sorts that I write down things my coach has said and I want to remember. I find that writing things down helps me remember what I don't want to forget. When I do, I have a place to look. I do have a skating friend that I share my ups and downs with. My skating isn't interesting to anyone but me. =-) Really.
